Anyone on this board gets them? What are your triggers? Do you take anything special prescription wise?

Last night I had one that woke me up. I felt like I was paralyzed with pain. Right behind my eyes, my head was throbbing. My vision was blurry. I took some OTC Tylenol migraine medicine. I was able to go back to bed in pain. Two hours later, I was still in pain and took a second dose. I couldn’t go back to sleep at first, but finally fell asleep about an hour later. I woke up this morning and it finally passed.

I’m not a doctor but have been advised to get checked if I get blurred vision with headache so just passing that along. Hopefully it’s just a migraine. For mine, Tylenol PM and sleep are all that helps.

My sister does. Meds and a dark quiet room are what you need

I get them about once or twice a month and then I also get cluster headaches that only sleep cures about every other day for as long as I can remember.. since about 3rd grade. Sucks. The migraines come with a vision aura about 30 minutes before the headache kicks in. If you catch it during the aura and take Imitrex, you can avoid the headache but you’ll still feel like crap from the medicine. Literally sleep is about the only thing other than narcotics that works

Pics of your wife or SO (if female), for subjective analysis.

Mine are triggered by hormones & alcohol, and last for 36-48 hours at a time. I haven’t tried many prescriptions, but the ones I’ve tried & haven’t helped. Occasionally, the caffeine-ibuprofen-acetaminophen combo will work a little. Otherwise, I just have to wait it out.

Most of my triggers are food related and weather related. Tylenol migraine isn't going to do shite to a real migraine. Those are really for caffeine withdrawal headaches, not migraines. Real migraines can really only be relieved with a tryptamine based medication like Zomig or Imitrex.

Lack of sleep over a couple of days triggers mine.

Benadryl
Tylenol
Motrin
Big bottle of Gatorade
Sleep

Most to the time this works. If it’s real bad I’ll add sumatriptan, a prescription med.

I get cluster headaches. I used to think I was stroking out but my blood pressure is always fine when I checked it.

2 Excedrin at one time allows me to function usually. Still hurts but I can work interact etc.

The only real cure is sleep.

My trigger is disrupted sleep which happens a lot when you have a toddler. This didn't use to happen but ah, the joys of getting older.

I probably had a migraine 3-4 times in my entire life but when I do, I'm down for the count. Only thing that helps is migraine aspirin, a rockstar energy drink and an ice pack.

Maybe try a cold washcloth on the head as well, but seems like what you're doing is good, and a poster above said a dark room, thats helpful as well.

Zomig works for me. As i have aged they are less frequent. Zomig is a vaso constrictor and relives symptoms for me within an hr. I still have to limit activity for day etc but it was very helpful for me. Triggers for my migaines were stress related it seemed

Although I have a prescription, I get fantastic results from the Dollar General brand of Excedrin Migraine.
