So does the medical schools. I should have specified schools, not universities. One has children one has adults.

People that moved to NOLA 6 months ago now call themselves natives want to tell locals what they can/can't do in their own community

Bizarrely, Jesuit asked neighbors to provide identification at that second meeting, and some were turned away when they were unwilling or unable to produce ID at the door, leading to further acrimony and accusations of non-compliance.

I also don’t see why the above would even be questioned. If it’s a neighborhood meeting why shouldn’t you have to provide proof you live in neighborhood. I think the part about being unable to provide ID was more relevant than the unwilling to provide ID part.

I can’t see diagram that well, but if that was the original design and nothing changed then it looks to have always been more like a walkway between the private buildings of the school and less like a bridge, so after attempting to have meetings with neighborhood that seemed to have drawn outsiders and also those trying to bring in unrelated public schools that aren’t relevant to discussion (liberals have had a hard on for harassing for private religious schools lately - especially catholic schools) school changed discussion to something that still seems relevant. If this guy & others wanted to be a part of discussion they should have acted this way from the start.

Who wouldn't want a walkway over the road, it is being paid for by private funds if I am reading correctly and will benefit the area.

Wonder if they turned away some of their own for not living in the neighborhood.

Because that’s not the process for neighborhood participation programs. Anyone can attend and give feedback.

I don’t have big feelings either way on the bridge but it’s poor governance from the city on how it was handled

I'll just say that I really don't care, and I have no idea if it would actually harm the trees. Which are historically and aesthetically important to the city, and you don't have to be a hippy to see. The potential harm could easily be overblown.

But how does it benefit the area?

This is the same forum that pissed and moaned for a week about U-Club having an off duty cop clear traffic. I'm sure they didn't live in that neighborhood either.

It is painfully ironic to consider how this private school project flies along with such speed, while public school children in our community continue to be neglected.

Bro they have been sinking millions of $$$ in the public schools Uptown. I don’t know about the other ones but just to name a few, McMain and Sophie Wright are going through major million dollar renovations.

Not to mention the Charter Schools are as well.

No need for a cross walk, safer streets. Better traffic flow.

I went to Jesuit in the 80’s (No Homo). That bridge should have gone up 30 years ago. It was a dangerous corner then, and I’m sure it’s worse now. Kids will be safer and I’m sure the frickers who drive that stretch every day are excited.

I hear Sacred Heart is also wanting to build a crossover over Napoleon to connect their 2 schools

The cross walk is called the corner, and it's not going anyway. Waiting for the light to turn green and having people cross wasn't affecting the traffic anymore than it will after. Those lights will still cycle. More than anything this probably just a waste of money, but whatever. I haven't been donating.

Aren't there businesses between them? Admittedly I don't know what all buildings they own. The bank that is closed and a couple houses.

Although, I'm confused as to why they need a bridge.

The bridge is for SECURITY reasons, and not so much safety. It is so a student never has to leave the cocoon of the campus once he is on campus. The way it is now, a student has to leave then re enter to go to PE class or any activity in the gym.

Fr. Fronk’s main goal upon coming in a year or so ago was security. Also remember, he is a lifelong military guy.....all about security.

This was done to comply with security measures and for insurance purposes.

I actually can get behind this. Not that it is a bad neighborhood, but maybe a product of our times.
