St. Rosalie in Harvey has an elevated pedestrian walkway over Second Ave. and Second Ave. is anything BUT a thoroughfare unlike Carrollton and Banks with its traffic light camera in one direction and people speeding through it in the others.
shite, they should be fricking thankful for this so traffic does not have to sit there waiting for hundreds of boys to cross every 45 or so minutes.
Xavier University just completed one from one side of Drexel Drive (Palmetto) over the canal and Washington Avenue to the parking lot on the other side.

the funny thing is they aren't even cutting down any oak trees, just trimming a couple branches.
but he does have a new book:
Spinning in Place, has been published by Frowning Cat Books exclusively for Kindle. Subtitled “A Secular Humanist Embraces the Neo-Pagan Wheel of the Year,” the book outlines a this-worldly approach to spirituality for the scientifically-minded.

No student has ever been killed or even injured crossing that street. I never had problems with it when I was there. Have you ever seen the street in question?

(It is painfully ironic to consider how this private school project flies along with such speed, while public school children in our community continue to be neglected. I could cite safety issues at Jesuit’s next-door neighbor, Esperanza, or the pitiful state of the rickety Lopez Street Bridge which Warren Easton students used for years to get to their practice field. I have to wonder, what are our priorities?)
And there it is...writer is an SJW with envy of what he perceives as privilege so he is going to make a stink about anything the perceived "haves" are doing.
Typical

Not ironic at all. The private school is paying for it with private money, the public schools get a lot of money post Katrina, if it isn't being used for the kids that isn't Jesuit's problem.

Would be interested to know if the same group also opposed the walkway over Washington ave that connects two of Xavier University’s properties. Xavier’s a catholic school also.

A "private walkway" can't be private if its built over a public thoroughfare. That's why you have public hearings and deal with opposition in a transparent manner. The city allowing a "private" structure over public property without going through the public hearing process sets a precedent and could result in all sorts of "private walkways" in the guise of cantilevered buildings, etc. over roadways.

That carpetbagging hipster isn’t even from New Orleans. He was born in Tulsa and grew up in Indiana.

Is this a long way of saying the petitioners are smart?
There was a loop hole and they found it.

I was gonna say this. They didn’t have the walkway and other building when I went there. Here is a pic. The horror:

The Xavier one did little to stop the constant crossings. That's a crosswalk that needs lighting. I stop every time. But once you do, you're stopped for a while.

Mitch was a Blue Jay. Marc was a Blue Jay. They are gonna get their way.
Although, I'm confused as to why they need a bridge.

Maybe that’s not so amazing. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised. The privileged and powerful are used to getting what they want. That’s kind of how things work.
