Michael Mann (Heat, Miami Vice) shoots himself at gun range in L.A.

I hope he recovers, but it's kinda funny that the mind behind the mass shootout scene in Heat pops himself during target practice in SoCal.
Serious question: with all the safety features of modern handguns, how the hell did a holstered sidearm go off?

Michael Mann was hospitalized on Saturday after accidentally shooting himself at a gun range in Los Angeles, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
“On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann. He was treated and is being released,” a rep for the four-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker shared in a statement.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to The Range LA at around 4 p.m. for a call about shots fired. “Responding units’ investigation determined the shooting to be accidental. The subject was transported to a local hospital in stable condition,” authorities said.

Didnt he force all the actors in heat to get military training for the shoot out scene so it could look as good as it did?

The trigger is the safety and he pulled it holstering the pistol.

That scene from he is the best shootout scene in movie history. That’s a great movie.

In my opinion he should be mentioned alongside the Kubricks and the Scorseses as one of truly the great cinematic minds of all time. However, he doesn’t get mentioned alongside these because he made action movies that the intelligentsia felt were beneath them on a certain level, and he did it unapologetically.

In the army, no such thing as an accidental shooting it’s a negligent discharge

Because the trigger got pulled. A properly holstered handgun is not going off without some extreme mistreatment.

He's 83. shite happens. My dad put away his firearms in his eighties because he determined he couldn't safely handle them.

Probably an inexpensive Chinese knock-off he had holstered…

I’m thinking he had his finger on the trigger while holstering.

Val Kilmer on the drive-in roof with the 7.62 was stunningly realistic. Top 5 film.

Might have been a Sig. Or Might have hit the trigger when he drew it.

Not knowing anything about him, or his weapon qualifications, If in fact his weapon fired while holstered, I wouldn’t think that it was a quality branded, well cared for pistol. Regardless of his ability to pay…
Just my $.10

Next time he’ll holler cut instead of shoot.

Miami Vice changed television, not to mention Miami itself.
