The boomers got into their jobs with no college degrees, training programs, etc., but never ever considered how the changing standards might frick them over in the long run (demanding college degrees and eliminating any formal training programs). Our economy became a mercenary economy with the boomers. Boomers were the last generation with long term employment at one company and completely eliminated that possibility for those after them. Now we see the fruits of that. People don't trust companies to be fair towards them and are demanding more upfront. Do they deserve it? Probably not, but you can see why after watching their parents they'd do that.

I’d say companies don’t deserve to be able to frick their employees over anymore, either.

Employees are rightfully going after a larger slice of the profit pie.

Just depends on which side of the fence you’re on.

If you are still doing the same work as before and get fired, they were bloated with overhead in the first place. No reason you'll get let go just because you work from home if you are still productive. By working from home you save the company overhead costs.

Its also extremely hard to train the next generation.

It is, yes. But one thing I've noticed, working in that industry for several different businesses, is that corporate policies and procedures have become infinitely more complex. Jobs held by people who've been there for 30 years cannot be simply taught to a newbie in 30 days. Limiting scope of positions and what you're actually asking employees to do is vitally necessary.

Yeah they're entitled and snobby and maybe even lazy quiet quitting types, but the way things went they were never allowed to grow up with boomers clogging up everything while eliminating all of the structures boomers used to get where they were at.

Gonna be a STEEP learning curve for those of us willing to sacrifice time with our families to keep the economy going.

You are being purposefully obtuse.

Every single sector of private industry, every company, has the same gripe.

Not just the company i work for, eveyone in my industry, and other industries. I had this exact same conversation with lawyers, restaurant owners, etc... it's the same gripe. No one wants to work, no one has any work ethic.

The average college graduate makes less today than the average high school graduate 40 years ago.

frick off with this bullshite. I was paid $43k out of college in 2005. Kids now, are offered upwards of 70-80k starting out, and they still won't take the job.

Wage stagnation is a real thing.

Businesses are not going to offer some dipshit kid out of college who thinks he should have a 3000 sf house with no work experience, $100k/year. That's A) stupidity and B) not the real world. Hiring costs, relocation costs, etc... is a big investment for any new hire, and a company isn't going to pay them fantastical child like imagination wages because they "think they're owed that". You want a 3,000 SF house, you have to work to earn that. I didn't buy my first house until i was 31. I rented until then.

For being almost 40, you have no real working knowledge of the current private sector. Or at least, you are feigning ignorance in how the real world works.

Work For Home isn't a culprit at all. I'm in sales and it's very easy to tell month after month even week after week who's performing vs who isn't.

There's nothing wrong with hybrid model

For other positions and roles I can see how it takes much longer to recognize if work is being completed but for some positions WFH is awesome

There are other clear benefits to being in the office together but that ship has sailed in a lot of organizations. Valuable people have now moved all over the place.

Yep. Since the start of Covid, we now have employees in Minneapolis, Tampa, and Reno who WFH. My boss lives in southern California and her boss lives in Dallas.

Our productivity actually went up as a department because our employees were more willing to work more hours from home than stay late at the corporate office.

Considering how much safety has become a concern in Chicago, I can't blame anyone for not going into the office anymore. I finally stopped going myself because it isn't worth it, particularly if nobody else is there.

Look at the last 60-80 years and really the last 40ish. The bill of goods being sold was technology will make everyone's jobs and life easier.

Productivity and corporate profits have Sky rocketed yet wages have been stagnant for decades and people feel compelled to never really completely detach from work due to email on their phone, video conferencing, etc.

It's a legit gripe. Yes, some people are just lazy and want the most reward for the least amount of work. That's always been the case.

Sounds like you are not paying enough. Labor has more options and control now and it doesn't feel so good to get fricked does it?

Sounds like you better put on your apron and learn how to work the fyer, my man.

I remember one year inflation was 2.5 percent and the company I worked for at the time raised their dividend 10 percent and employees got a 1 percent raise.

Management didn't like me after I pointed that out. I also realized that was not a company that I wanted to work for. Preaching about caring for workforce but lying to them boldly. I ran the math too. It was a bad look.

What Millennials or Zoomers do you know that are regularly buying 3,000 SF houses in this market in any major metro area?

You’re coming off as out of touch at best.

Work 40 hours. Get a check.

Work 50 hours. Get the same check.

Work 60 hours. Get the same check.

Then they wonder why their company has more turnover than an Applebee's.
