Looking to get a pretty simple 20x40 or so garage/workshop built.
I figured this thread would die on the vine on the H&G board

Prepare your checkbook for a raping. Metal buildings have been high as giraffe pussy for several years now.

Problem is the labor right now.
Concrete will run you about $8,500 to $9,000.
Structural steel will be about $3500 and rough ballpark on the siding and roofing will be $3500. $40k sounds reasonable, but labor has gone straight up and double material price isn't necessarily the metric any longer.
$40k might get you the shell with a man door and a small roll up without any electrical finish-out. Unless you're electrical savvy, be prepared to provide your own lube for their quote.

You can’t do this yourself? Soft

I went the Muellers and got the steel frame. They gave me names of contractors to assemble it.
During Laura these things took a beating. All of my neighbors had them blow away completely. Get higher wind graded roll up doors. The building with some kind of interior walls did the best. Most of the wood frame building were gone to the slab. Steel frame was about 50/50 if they survived.

Try Mallet buildings near Jennings. It’s a pole barn. Wooden structure and truss’ with metal envelope. Although it’s not total steel, they are under same engineering as it relates to wind, etc.

That should get you a 10x10, better pour your own slab, and if you want a roll up door that'll be extra sir.

I built a quonset bldg
they were 1/2 the price of a conventional steel,
had the slad poured, and assembled it myself, w/ friends
all can be assembled with a manlift

Yes Mallet. They will build that size concrete and all for under $40k. And will rate it for 150 mph hurricane.
Edit. Electrical not included.

What part of South LA? Did you budget for piles, electrical, plumbing, windows?
$40k maybe a tough to do in this market.
