Not allowing your employees to try to stop the theft in progress?

Probably brought on by capitalist companies who don't want to pay for their employees getting hurt chasing criminals.

This shows you how dumb the OT. You give the exact reason my these policies exist and get downvoted.

It comes down to workers comp.

I guess too many residents started locking their guns up so NOLA's finest are resorting to retail theft for firearms

IMO, the irresponsible firearm owners are partially responsible when their guns are stolen. Countless times a gun has been taken from an unlocked vehicle.

Owning a gun especially a pistol is a big responsibility and should be treated as such. But so many people got their heads up their asses today consumed by content on their phones and they forget to simply lock their center console and lock the doors on the vehicle. It’s simple but then again nothing surprises me with people now.

Yep. The bad behaviors you tolerate are the ones you will see more of.

Besides, it's just a gun stolen by a criminal who will likely then use the gun in more crimes.

I do wish honest, law-abiding folks would protest Academy until the give those employees their job back.

The world would be a much, much better place if shoplifters were shot on sight. Not kidding one bit.

We reported a shop lifting situation at Macy’s awhile back and the employees and security both said their company rules won’t allow them to do anything

I don’t understand why any hourly employee would waste any time chasing a thief. Who gives a shite, it doesn’t come out of their pocket.

We live in a litigious world.

If you work for a company doesn't want you to protect their inventory, why let it bother you? I'd hold the fricking door for them.

Shoplifting is a job / business for a lot of folks. They know who pursues / prosecutes. Stores have to learn the hard way.

I was at customer service at academy in BR last week shortly after they opened. In the span of 15 minutes I saw:

1. A young future atom splitter walk right out with a $350 yeti soft cooler.

2. A young future(or current) baby mama walk right out with an arm full of shoe boxes.

3. Someone in line with me -"those poor kids can't afford dat stuff it's a shame"

I responded "You do realize the cost of that is passed on to us...you know those who actually pay" and yes I was called Maga.

If shoplifters received a Popeye's style group beatdown every time they shoplifted, it would curtail theft.

I have relatives in retail. People come in, fill up a cart, and cruise out the door with it.

It started back in the late 70's and early 80's.
Someone filed a suit against a grocery store in Florida, due to employees attacked someone stealing a product from that store.
That incident made national news.

Then it was like a avalanche of other stores attacking customerspopping up, lawsuits, and stores getting away from stopping customers from stealing products.

If someone had a gun on your daughter would you be mad at her for not fighting and letting the criminal take her car?
Not really applicable. One is a credible direct threat to an individual while the other is a theft of an object which likely has no ammunition.
But the larger issue is whether we are serious about having the guts to do needful things to maintain our society.
We should step up and deal with such activities rapidly and effectively. Permitting lawlessness is how the rot spreads and in displaying such weakness, we become sheep.
Yes, there are risks, but we should never cower when we have the ability to fight.
