No, but your average wannabe political philosopher takes pictures of them to prove a point to strangers on the internet.

So I found a used copy of Hegel, never having read it, in the event that I needed to take a picture of it to impress people on TigerDroppings.

That's your assertion?

with respect, taking an AP European history class doesn’t make you an expert on much in its own right. If the man says he read those books, I have no reason not to believe him and I’m sure he has valid interpretations of the writings.

FWIW; I took AP Euro as well as APUSH and scored a 5 on both. They were fun and insightful classes but don’t make me an authority on the subjects. High school accomplishments aren’t worth bragging about in a discussion like this, my own humble brag included.

Agreed. Never said my ending in studying these areas was in high school, either. That's an assumption you and he made.

Sudden changes in the meaning of "freedom", "liberty", and "self-determination" gave us the American Revolution.

Say otherwise. This statement is nothing but pure ignorance and a complete lack of education on the terms you used above throughout history. Other posters have already commented on this.

My point really is, I don’t think a dick measuring contest is really productive here. I don’t think you were correct in your original post about an alleged discontinuity in the definitions of the word “liberty”, nor of the word “freedom”.

I guess in a broader sense you are trying to say sudden changes in definitions of words isn’t always associated with a breakdown in communication, but I’d say it probably results in a breakdown far more often than it results in cohesive debate being fostered.

A person who identifies as female, then mutilates their gentialia then commits suicide.

At the end of the day, who gives a flying frick. I haven’t picked up a dictionary in over 20 years since I was enrolled at LSU. I work everyday, make a decent living, and frick my wife after popping a viagra. That’s all I care about. If some fruits want to call themselves a girl then so fricking what. It has zero effect on my life. I’m over halfway on the time I have left on this earth, and I’m not going to spend it worrying about what other people do if it makes them happy

It will have an effect on your life if you use the wrong pronouns when talking to them.

Again, you may not care about the progressive agenda. But the progressive agenda cares about you.

Why does this trans acceptance stuff become such an important thing? We are talking about a tiny, miniscule fraction of the population at large. They're not a voting bloc. So why? What the hell is the point?

Because if children can choose their gender, they can choose to have sex.

I think the time for complacency has long passed us by, personally. Language being co-opted for political ends tends to present a clear and present danger in my eyes.

We can focus on my disagreement with your post, if you’d rather.

Progressive’s whole existence is predicated on saving an aggrieved population, so they need to continue to create them. I still have yet to get a detailed answer on what rights trans people don’t have.

Look, I think all the gender shite is just as insane as the next person, but the d part of the first definition says "sometimes offensive: a single or married woman of any age".

That's how it was once used. Society has changed and today, with all the gender shite, a person whose gender identity is female defines how it is used. I don't think updating how a word is currently used is a great example of society losing its fricking mind.

ETA: Kiel is a small town in Wisconsin, about the last place in the country I’d expect something like this shite to happen

Well some can see the political undertones that underlie the change and see this as a not so subtle form of erasing dissent on a contentious issue; and see the danger in letting language and definitions shift drastically in a relatively short time at the whims of a certain political wing.
