And when these least valuable members can't afford their meds anymore, have fun when they break into your home high on speed to kill you.

What's not underfunded that should be cut?
That isn't a dedicated fund
And isn't federal money...food stamps
Lots of things will have to be cut to balance the budget, this is their share
Or would you rather them raise taxes like the governor wants?

The dedicated funds need to all be revisited along with the constitution.
quote:I get what you are saying, but I'm saying from my prospective and dealing seeing the mental health issues in my parish first hand, I would hope that they could reallocate the budget to increase by 7% other than decrease.... i would bet there is less critical money to be shaved else where other than this arena, again look at the dedicated funds

I think we ageee that the over all opperating budget for our tiny state is unreal.
And yes SNAP is funded by the Feds.... I wish they would somehow throw us that money in a block grant and let us spend it for the good of the people how we see fit. Set up commodity sites and take the rest of the money and spend it on something like mental health... but the Feds would rather us use it all on EBT cards to subsidize big grocery stores. Walmart, Target, and Rouses are keeping their doors open with la purchase cards.

To undecicate funds would take a constitutional amendment so it would have to be voted on. The reason it is dedicated is because it's already been voted on
Article says their budget is 14 billion for next year. That's a lot of money. Maybe they should look at operating more efficiently instead of wanting more money?

quote:maybe so, obviously I don't know the inner workings of their budget. I just know from the outside looking in it's something that needs to be ramped up, either by being much more efficient or by the budget.

All anacdotal obviously. And it may not be st crisis levels like it was a decade ago but it doesn't need to fall back to that level.

Well it comes out to about 3k for every man woman and child in the state so I'd say it's pretty well funded

Wait, you realize the $14B is the entire fiscal budget for DHH and Medicaid right and not all allocated to mental health?
I promise Orleans parish's couple mental health facilities aren't burning through $1.2B a year
ETA: also the $235M cut will balloon to almost $1B without the federal funds matched for the year under the expansion of Medicaid

How much of that $14B is used on re-decorating, travel fees, parties, entertaining, and catering meetings?

This doesn't need to be cut
why does our budget suck?
We need to cut higher Ed, mainly the useless degree programs
Either that or build more jails

It's sad they propose cutting something so useful that actually helps and better people/society.
Wish Louisiana could get its shite together.

I find it wonderful that medicaid helps with mental health. It is very useful for those seeking counseling and can't afford it otherwise. I promise it is very much worth it.

Not a fan of cutting those kinds of services. And I don’t know all about these budget issues like I’d like to, but I do know we’re still trying to get in the positives on the budget, you can only tax so much in this state, and we’ve got to cut from somewhere.

LSUSatsuma was tired of all his losing on the Poli Board so he generously offered to share his wisdom more widely.
DHH is the epitome of what is wrong with this state. Bloated, corrupt and lacking accountability. This announcement is akin to Governor Turtle announcing he was canceling summer school which would mean no football season. No lie too large in the quest for more taxes.
