We are investigating a tip that 3 of the 5 officers in the Memphis PD beating of Tyre Nichols were members of the Vice Lords gang and under their direction.

Other gang directed beatings were reportedly found on their phones.

Recordings as proof of carrying out the beating.

Hmmm.....as to my theory earlier in the thread:

quote:

I have a theory that doesn't really involve Nichols messing around with a cop's wife. The guy was a skater who hung around at skate parks and likely ran the streets to a degree (not in a bad way, just as a skater).

The cops were part of a unit dealing with drugs and street/gang violence.

What are the chances that Nichols saw or knew something was going on, or tried to report criminal activity, and these cops were actually dirty? They could have caught him out and decided to tune him up a bit, but winded up killing him.

That's my theory that means absolutely nothing.

The more I read about Nichols, the less I believe this had to do with him carrying out an affair. That doesn't mean there couldn't have been some other personal conflict.

Considering I am a left leaning poster on a 99% conservative board, and most of my posts outside of serious moments like this are sports related or snark, who am I trying to win over, exactly?

But I noticed you deflected and got defensive, must have hit a nerve with that one huh? You really think the toxicology report is gonna exonerate these guys somehow? What drugs you think if are found in his system would retroactively justify this?

Update: Allegedly there is a Bonding company in Chattanooga that many believe is financially backed by the Vice Lords. Huge bonds are being made by this one company for this certain gang.

They have members working as jail officers as well. It seems they have people everywhere.

If true that's smart on their end.

Not so smart.

The social underpinnings are simple, put your little book by dr Marx down, its foolishness.

Supports Bernie, doesn't realize Bernie was an actual socialist who supported authoritarian USSR.

Youre just seriously uniformed.

It’s almost like you missed the entire beginning where they yank him out of his car, shove him down, and threaten to beat the ever living shite out of and taser him as he’s trying to lay down all while multiple people are yanking his limbs and screaming in his face. All for a traffic stop. But yeah WHYHERUN????
for the life of me I can't figure out two things here:

1. Why was an organized crime task force (gangs, not mafia) doing a non-felony stop for reckless driving (kid had a clean record)?

2. Why did they run up and drag him out of the car without even asking for ID, insurance, etc. For a moving violation on a non-felony stop?

The only conclusion I can come up with is they wanted to initiate something with him for some reason. They wanted him specifically stopped and they wanted it to escalate.

The answer to those question will likely be the difference between murder 1 & 2. Right now they are trying to get them to rat on the guy(s) who sought this. And they will get their charges upped to M1.

I really don't know why this is such a difficult concept to understand.

I will type slowly.

If you, as a cop, even a Black cop, are told day in and day out that Black people are worthless, drug dealers, sub-human, you might begin to believe that.

Typical uninformed idiot making hilariously generic claims.

White democrats are incredibly stupid people.

An entirely meaningless statistic meant to fit an agenda. Never use raw data to compare countries. That’s complete nonsense.

How many were justified? Out of how many interactions? What’s the % or peaceful resolution vs fatal?

I didn’t post regarding any agenda, only pointing out that way more people are killed each year by highly trained professionals, in a controlled environment than by cops. Yet, cops are always the problem child we hear about.

You went back 40years just so you could add up everything to have some OMG type number. It seems you posted your stat to fit your agenda. Then if you take those 30k and subtract the justified from it it gets even lower.

I wonder how many that died of medical malpractice are justified?

I will say cops need more training, the problem is the public/govt isn’t willing to do what it takes to ensure that. Nobody is paying cops to go training jiujitsu or some other fighting type every week. Nobody is paying them to workout every day. Few departments are even having their officers shoot more that twice a year. Some only once. There are cops that pay for that out of their own pockets but they’re the minority and do it because they understand the importance.

It comes down to money and nobody is willing to pay what it takes to have better trained police. Period.

It will remain an issue so that it can be the red herring politicians can make a stand on, then officers get some PowerPoint slides they have to review every year.

ETA: If I missed the context of you posting the numbers then I apologize, but my point still stands.

At the very least they should seriously consider taking the pepper spray away from cops. They basically sprayed themselves several times when trying to arrest him taking out most of the officers each time. If this was an actual dangerous criminal they would have been screwed.

And this isn't the first time I have seen pepper spray severely misused or backfire on cops.

is bizarre we are so interested in race that it has distorted all of our thinking about policing.

The data on police shootings over the last decade seems to show this doesn't track with race. Our culture just publicizes the incidents in which someone black dies.

Which shouldn't be the point. Bad policing, high crime in some areas, poor police training in non lethal restraint techniques, and training the public how to safely comply while not ceding essential rights are the things (rather than race) we should work on instead.

It's not the policing, it's the media and democrats wanting to divide the country for political gain.

Are there bad policemen and women? Sure. But it's a miniscule percentage distorted by social and main stream media.

Progressives will have to realize that the only way to defund the police, is to defund the government.

The correlation between the two is constant.

I say bring this conversation to a head. If I can defend myself as I see fit, defund the frick out of everything.
