I am all for anyone that takes it upon themselves to help people in their boats and that's what makes our area great. But I think it would be beneficial in the future to have some optional training before hand and also have people have their names on a list to be called in case of future disasters. That way these baws in their boats can go where the help is needed most and it can be safer for all of them. Just an idea. I don't think it should be required, because we know how the government can turn simple ideas into s shite show, but I just think it would help everyone in the long run.

from what i saw in st amant (stringer bridge at beco) it seemed fairly well organized. a few folks directing traffic and pointing boats towards the areas they were needed most.

Really great to see community coming together when just a month or so ago it looked like it would be torn apart.

I guess we all hope that people don't need praise in return for helping others.....but the outcome is still a large positive either way.

Good on these guys.

I don't doubt it. I was just thinking there may be a better way to communicate to volunteers to tell them where to go launch instead of relying on social media which at times can spread false or partial information.

Yea I dont care if they post videos or want a pat on the back, they help, end of story. If someone posting a video of a rescue gets you rustled you need to refocus your priorities.

Those Muslim ms and left wing morons in major cities never take people like this into account in this nation. I want to see Hillary try to take away guns in this country and see what the result of that legislation is! Lol

Radios would've helped a lot. I'm sure some people had them, but every flat boat or skiff I've been didn't. Maybe one radio per group

There's so many trucks pulling boats in Ascension Parish right now, you'd swear it was Saturday.

You know that some of them have no intention of putting them in water....

but thank God for those that have, and will.

All of this is an absolutely terrible idea. The civilian volunteers accounted for the vast vast vast majority of the rescues. Don't mess with it.

I cannot knock the boaters at all and it's crazy to do so. After Katrina the boaters know what needs to be done and they are doing it. You can't wait for the government to come in and get you. You have to go out there and help.

I do have friends out there videoing everything, but they are helping and not just sittin at desks playing on computers trash talking people who are helping

There were so many boats out there, it was crazy. It's also amazing how many people LA residents have saved so far

Government = days
Baws = hours

I've been working nights checking water levels to reopen roads and it's unbelievable how many trucks I've seen pulling boats. Baws using passable areas of I-12 and getting off at any exit they could to launch.
