Meet The Heroes Of The ‘Cajun Navy’ Who Are Saving Many Lives As LA Floods

Here’s another example of Louisianians helping their neighbors that we have seen this weekend. Louisiana is called the “Sportsman’s Paradise” because we love our hunting and fishing here.
Many of us have flat-bottom boats which are perfect for shallow bayous. They’re also good for flooded streets.
When a major flood hits the state, this “Cajun Navy” assembles to rescue their neighbors who are trapped in flooded homes and rooftops.
Riding a boat around in flooded streets is not easy work. There is often a strong current whipping around flooded cars and houses. There are also many obstacles that can damage boats.
But people across Louisiana are proud of the “Cajun Navy.”
Louisianians don’t sit around and wait for the government to come save us. We know from first hand experience we have to save ourselves.
Many pictures of the Cajun Navy from Twitter inside link

I know a ton of people from plaquemines parish are over there helping... I must have seen about 15 airboats and a ton of flat bottom mud boats heading that way a few days ago

Im more proud of those that are doing it without having to post a play by play on social media

All you have to do is drop in off the side of the road and follow the current. Been doing it for three days without any police assistance or social media.

well in fairness some on here were using the site as a means to help people from here or people known by people on here.

There were so many boats out there, it was crazy. It's also amazing how many people LA residents have saved so far
Government = days
Baws = hours

That's different than all these " hey look at me" facebook videos.
Finny how these guys will risk personal equipment and pay out of pocket for gas but as soon as boats aren't needed they disappear. Or bitch about being told to stay out of the area. Still plenty of volunteer work needed and donations to be made. of course, that's not as cool as showing off you duck boat and certainly not as "heroic"

Have a downvote.

Who gives a frick if they want attention? They're still helping. They could be doing it in the name of Satan and it wouldn't matter.

You ever think they get worn out from running 12-18hr days since Saturday and sleeping in the truck at night? They probably know they can help with their boats, but have to go back to work after that

can see this guy stranded on his roof surrounded by 10 ft of water. boat pulls up to help and he says "wait, you're taking pics so you can brag about helping? no thanks, i'll wait for someone who isn't lookng for attention.

I'd tell them to turn the cameras off. This is possibly someone's worst moment. If you want to help, help. Don't take a thumbs-up selfie as you drop money in the collection plate.

Know how I can tell you and your kids weren't picked up by these guys?
