They will most likely be paying it back. Student Loan debt is really the one thing that can’t be discharged. When this sad frick dies they will have to use his life insurance and retirement accounts/assets to pay this off on behalf of the estate. This will probably leave them with very little judging by this genius financial decisions.

Absolutely no way in hell I would have ever put my parents in that position. I felt like a shite human for asking them to cosign for my loan.

This is what I thought too.. Also, how did none of the kids get a scholarship?
How do you know that they didn't? Do you have any idea what it costs today? What you see as Tuition when you look at the costs, just go ahead and at least double that or more to cover books, fees, living expenses and then add travel costs, plus add out-of-state fees if going out-of-state. It can easily be $50k a year per kid, so if he is only out $550k, those kids were getting supplemental grants and scholarships.

i don't have kids but i can't imagine not paying for their college expenses. my parents did it for me and theirs did it for them.

My parents didn’t have the means. Most don’t.

College tuition wasn’t nearly what it is now, but I paid mine out of pocket and it wasn’t a huge deal. I took out loans, maybe $35k, for tuition ad living expenses and worked well paying college jobs steadily throughout for party and food money.

I had them paid off in full within 3 years of graduation without much personal sacrifice. Not that big of a deal for the driven.

Estates do not have to pay back student loans.

Student loans including PLUS loans are discharged on death and disability - his wife/ex wife is off the hook as well since he's the only one obligated.

Or maybe his ex wife was going to bleed his arse dry in a divorce settlement so he made god damn sure that she couldn't get a red cent out of him and effectively giving his kids all the money.

Mine didn't. I rented a lower cost apartment, ate a lot of cheap food and didn't party much during my college days, but came out of it debt free.

I can be done.

So he paid 1/2 million dollars to have his kids indoctrinated on purpose?

Could have let the media do it for free.....

This is what I did. I worked and my parents helped with the cheap apartment. I was very lucky to have that plus a scholarship for a lot of the fees, and TOPS paid tuition.

No loans for undergrad.

Had no other option for paying for grad school and left with $16,000 in loans that I paid off. I worked and lived in a cheap apartment (Like El Cid but in a dangerous neighborhood), but I still couldn’t cover it on that alone.

Waste of money. If they aren't smart enough to go somewhere other than CC, they should just start working at McDonald's now.

He cheated…feels guilty and knew he’d ‘lose his children’ if the secret his ex is keeping…gets out.

$500k to pay for the privilege of being indoctrinated to believe they are inherently racist and responsible for things that happened centuries ago.

Way to go Clark.

We pay for the two boys to do coding camps over the summer and they take coding camps at school. My BIL is makes about 250k in the field and saw what my oldest (11) can do and said, “I could start him at 100k tomorrow”.

So “learn to code” isn’t just a meme, it’s a very lucrative career. And if your kids have any inkling of interest in the field spending a little money now will likely pay huge dividends now and avoid liberal shithole money pit worthless university degrees in the future.

Yes. I took out loans to pay for private K-12. Just paid off oldest kids $35k college loan. If you are not willing to provide your child the best education possible, don’t have kids.

This is not true for federal loans. They generally cannot be discharged in bankruptcy, but they generally will be discharged upon death.

$100,000+ for college is the real crime. These public universities are the problem and no one calls them out on it.
