College is for sheep, just like taking our huge loans to pay for it.

Waste of money. If they aren't smart enough to go somewhere other than CC, they should just start working at McDonald's now.

It’s not smart to pay as little as possible for BS classes that don’t matter. One of my kids went to CC on a scholarship paid for everything, then transferred to Purdue where they graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. The scholarship would not fully cover the cost of Purdue, only having to put out money for two years instead of 4 at Purdue enabled us to pay for it with no loans.

I’m sure his four daughters with their gender studies degrees will be making bank and pay back the loans themselves.

Should have got a shitty apt and shoved both your kids in there. shite Im in my 30s and only pay $800/month on rent and that includes everything.

you will have to show me where the cheap “shitty apartments” are around UT in Austin, because four years in and I havent found them. Sure there are cheap apartments in Austin, but then you need a car to get to campus and that negates the savings. or rely completely on the Austin MTA

why would it cost 100 grand for each to go to school?

they should have stayed in state and went to a state school and lived at home if possible. let me guess they are goign to overly expensive schools.

he made a bunch of dumbass decisions and now wants people to feel sorry for him. He should just take responsibility for being an idiot and falling into the trap that one must go to a upscale out of state private school to be successful and that college is simply for education for the sake of education.

At a college that was $50K/year undergraduate years ago, the tuition is now well over $80K I believe. Even instate at a decent public university these days, costs of attending are around $25K. And yes, if you are good enough with computers or certain other careers, you are better off just going into the labor force. However, a lot of research that we all benefit from happens at universities because the seed ideas are not profitable enough on their own for private investors.

You have to be betting on one of the five to not be an a-hole and help you out as you get older and want to retire. But probably not

This is why I’m planning to save on the front end. Hopefully, I’ll have enough money saved up to either pay for college outright or at least keep loans to a minimum.

Just curious.

I didn’t. My wife and I saved for our kids education, but we made each take out student loans for their last year which they had to pay off.

We called it the “get useful degrees and go to work” incentive plan. I also told my eldest to get a minor in CAD because getting a good job in interior design doesn’t happen right out of school. I was right and she’s got a good job in ID but it was years after she graduated before that happened.

Glad I have 2, and yes I would. However, hopefully when they graduate and start their career they could take the payment over.
