Medical question for OT Docs

SO has been texting me that her horse stepped on her foot. She has been icing it for a couple of hours but still can't walk on it. Debating getting it x rayed but wants wait and see if it gets better. Would there be a downside to waiting until tomorrow if it is actually broken? Not the first time it has happened but she said it's the worst. Horse stumbled and came down on it with nearly all his weight.
No pics of SO or horse.

Probably because the SO looks like a horse.

Specifically how will waiting until tomorrow help you determine if its broken or not? Stop being cheap, lazy or whatever else your being and go get the fricking x-ray so your significant other can get proper medical attention.

Ask LZ's opinion in the lunch thread

Why not just go get an X-Ray?

You're going to want to gather a hatchet, cottonmouth venom, koi fish urine, and a tarp. Let me know when you're ready for the next step.

I would recommend getting it looked at sooner rather than later. Chances are it would be ok to wait, but whenever you have a bad crush injury there is always a chance of what's called compartment syndrome which is not something you want to sit on.

I'm not there and she can't drive herself. She would have to find someone to take her. If we wait I can arrange to take her tomorrow.

If you're in BR- I'm pretty sure the Orhto clinic on Bluebonnet has an after hours clinic.

No, it won't change anything to wait a day. But a horse stepping on a foot is enough force that I would get it looked at sooner rather than later, high impact enough to fracture a few mets. Depending on where you get xrays, you may need a CT scan any ways. Midfoot injuries are commonly missed on plain films. If you go to an urgent care you will likely still need to see a specialist but at least they can get initial films and a boot.

The red line for medical diagnosis in the field is the ability to bear weight. If the person can walk on it, they can wait. If they can't bear weight, they need to go to the hospital.
That's the rules. Either find her a ride, call Uber or get off your arse and take her. FWIW, you don't need to necessarily go to the ER. Lots of the Urgent Care places have the appropriate equipment to assess this injury. Like the new one at College Dr/Lee and Perkins.
