When I was in 8th grade I got my foot stepped on by a horse. That fricker would not move until I punched him in the gut.

Bruised the frick out of my foot, might have been broken, but people didn't go to the Doctor for every little thing back then. I just toughed it out, tell her to do the same.

I think the armadillo that tried to knock me off my feet and cut me has gave me the AIDs. shite is all red and swelling a little.

Armadillos give you leprosy, not aids, brah. Seriously.

What is the mane reason not to go tonight?

Are you too cheap and afraid of getting saddled with a big bill?

You should be champing at the bit to see that x-ray

Is your wife a thoroughbred?

Is her name Catherine?

Knowing if it’s broken today or tomorrow will not change the management. It’s not like they are going to do a foot surgery tonight. Just avoid weight bearing on it and do rice.

ETA—unless there is neurovascular compromise.

Again, don’t rush to get an X-ray today, unless there is a diminished pedal pulse or numbness.

your SO is a fairly tough girl, and she cannot put pressure on her foot, it is probably broken.

I don’t know her (that I know of. Hell, I may if she shows locally), but I guarantee she’s tough as nails. Most horse girls are.

If it's broke today, it will be broke tomorrow. Let pain be the guide. It's not like Urgent Care is going to call in somebody to perform a procedure. If it's broke, they'll simply splint it, give her some crutches and tell her to make an appointment with an ortho. And congrats on losing 3hrs of your life if you're lucky. Tell her to suck it up and go see an ortho tomorrow if she can't bear weight. Skip the bullshite.

She has a Harry Potter scar on her forehead from where a horse kicked her when she was 12.

Two fractures in top of foot. Sent her home with crutches and pain meds, follow up with ortho.

More than likely needs an x-ray.

Would there be a downside to waiting until tomorrow if it is actually broken?

Pretty difficult to answer. If no bone is out, odds are she wouldn't go to surgery immediately. A lot of broken bones don't need surgery. A lot of times, people with similar injuries get immobilized and wait for surgery if it is needed at all.

This is also in an area where gravity works against you, and there isn't a lot of soft tissue to expand. If the pain becomes unbearable, she should head in tonight. I wouldn't try too hard or too often to walk on it. I'd see someone in the next 24h if she doesn't wake up feeling significantly better.

Again, pretty tough to give a great answer over a message board.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully she’ll get as good as possible news on that appointment.

Bet she asked how long til she could ride again

I never ask this question. I just remove my stirrup from the saddle

Hoof it over to an ortho surgeon tomorrow. You’ll waste time and money if you filter up through your ER, FP, etc.

Looks like I am late to chime in, but BR Ortho clinic on bluebonnet has an after hours walk in clinic, much better than going to a typical after hours clinic for this type of injury
