The reason I don't believe it is bc the witness stated Gasser said "I told you not to frick with me" as he stood over him and shot again

... and then sat down and waited for the cops.

Q: After the investigation and they find credible cause, can he still be arrested and charged for murder/manslaughter? Even tho they just released him?

When shite like this happens it 100% justifies all the ill feeling black folks feel towards the system. This is a mind boggling decision and does nothing for JP's racist image.

Maybe, and I'm sure they'll use it to evidence that, but it's really, really early.

We don't know what we don't know yet. Creating narratives early in these incidents is part of the problem, and the reason we have people who still think Mike Brown had his hands up, etc.

Has the ex sheriff thing been confirmed?

No clue, which is why I'm careful to only mention it as a rumor.

I hate to make light of this terrible situation, but I can not see this phrase without thinking of the guy from the amberlamps video in Oakland

Cops better release some facts of events bc as of now, people are forming opinions without very much details in this story.

It is not the police's job to stop ill informed people from forming ill informed opinions.

No. That came from a nola.com commenter.

Maybe they should release some information to stop people from being ill informed.

Well since you know what actually happened and what the investigation is discovering right now, why don't you let the rest of us in on it?

What could be the reason to shoot an unarmed guy in the street at a red light?

Could be lots of them. Do you have to have an answer in an hour or two?

That's about as unreliable as you can possibly get. That narrative needs to die until it's confirmed.

Again, this is part of the story that the PD could have easily have nipped in the bud with a press release.

You're either being purposely obtuse or naive or both. If the shooter was a 54yr old brotha that dude isn't on the street right now. I've been in the criminal system for over 20 years and that's just the way it is unfortunately.

I mean, they have to have video evidence or something to at least dispute this part (which does sound incredible) to release this dude before they even have to, right?

Perhaps the autopsy reports showed only 1 wound. Then they questioned her further and she admitted to making it up.

Look, im not saying thats the case at all. Im just saying the more detailed a witnesses account is. The more pieces of evidence there are to either corroborate or contradict that report.

Lets assume the cops arent brazen enough to be corrupt in something as high profile as this.

high profile case, releasing a shooter so fast. i think its not unreasonable to want to know why, whether you are figuring out what charges to bring or have an alternative side of a story that makes a shooting justified.

Does this have to be solved today?

It is actually 100% in their job description

They first and foremost are PEACE officers and part of peace is providing information

They are public servants, go to a cop and ask for directions they will never tell you they don't know they'll bust out a map and write down directions for you. Informations a big part of their job.
