on a work trip to Ponte Vedra my manager lined up a round of golf for me with his father at Saltgrass CC. I showed up and the dad said he couldn't play but he paired me with another member named Dave Campo. Chatted the entire round about everything other than football and afterwards exchanged cards.
When the Jags came to Houston that season we tried to arrange a dinner with him and Mike Shula (I'm a Bama grad) but me and my fam had already left town for a vacation. Kept in touch off and on until he left the Jags and we lost touch.

I was on 2 flights between Houston and B'ham w/ Robert Horry. My then 4 year old exchanged a Roll Tide w/ him.
On the return flight back to Houston he sat a couple rows behind me and a lady sitting next to him asked him what he did for a living. When he said he used to play basketball she asked if he was any good. I and a couple others around that heard the conversation nearly died. His iPad screen was a pic of all his rings which was pretty cool.

not related to anything on the course but this gets retold all the time so here goes:
guys trip to RTJ in Huntsville (Hampton Cove) and after the round we were in the bar going over scorecards.
went up to the bar to get beers and asked the girl bartending for a cold mug. she said they didnt have any mugs so I asked for a cold pint glass instead.
older guy sitting at the bar looks over and asks what the hell a pint glass was and him and the bartender decide there isnt such a thing as a pint glass and i just made up the word.
i then just ask for whatever cold glass she had available and she hands me a cold pint glass. as i walked away they were still going on about how i made up the word pint and there ain't such a thing.

I'm shocked Tim Tebow wasnt mentioned by any Bama fan. It was between us and UF and he stayed home. Called Shula crying to tell him he was picking the Gators. Would have been interesting to see how he would have shaped Bama's history given Shula was fired after Tim's freshman year and we got Saban.

the ride will end eventually and we will be just another team like Arkansas or Tennessee. i keed i keed. when I was at Bama we sucked minus 1 season and when I was in grad school we sucked. we could win every game by 40 (and rack up nattys) and I'd be fine with it bc it's never guaranteed and i'm enjoying the ride.
