I watched on Periscope just because it was available. I wouldn't have watched it otherwise much less paid to watch it.

Same here. Watched it on my phone at work. They wouldn't have gotten a dime from me anyway.

The ability of people to use social media and other tech to easily bypass Pay Per View is like when Napster hit the music biz and their high-priced CDs.

There is going to be some shakeout and adjustment. I think the whole PPV model will change in the next year or two.

Boxing and its pay per view model for all its biggest fights is one of the most short sighted things ever. It likely did as much to kill the sport's popularity as anything.

If they charged like $5 bucks for it theyd make more money, just pay the boxers less. Mcgrehor was on welfare before so they could probably just pay him in beer. Like all you have to do to be a pro boxer is fight like a regular dude but weigh 112 pounds

They shouldn't charge so fricking much.

Looks like us and Canada were expected to subsidize the rest of the world.

Ditto, I was not ever going to pay to watch that fight. No way no how.

I'm pretty sure the people that pirated it were those unwilling to pay for it, or in other words, only willing to watch for free.

100% of them?

Nah. There is some cost that is legitimate. Obviously, it's not all of the pirated streams. But, some percentage is lost revenue.

The only way to stop this is to prosecute it.

They paid Mayweather and McGregor a combined 300,000,000 for that fight.

I guess that is true if every viewer would have bought the right in their own. But most people are getting 10 or more people together to watch the fight. So 70.6 million might be a bit off.

Just the viewership from those two streams alone could cost the event more than $70.6 million.

That's not true unless you assume every one of those viewers would have paid for it if they couldn't pirate it. I doubt very many of them would have.

We talked about that as we were getting ready to go arrrgggghhh.

It's crazy that companies always seem to make the most off of the back of Americans.

Pharmaceuticals are even worse.
