Great news for Thoth!
quote:

Mayor Cantrell said that all parades will go back to their original routes, and said a more robust announcement was coming later this week with krewes. Cantrell set Monday as the deadline for krewes to secure enough law enforcement in order to return to their original routes. The deadline was extended, and Cantrell's announcement Wednesday solidified the routes returning to normal.

About time.

It still blows my mind that it took until the last minute to figure this out.

Lol.

Come February 1, she’ll cancel all this shite AGAIN for some reason, after it is too late for them to move elsewhere and they have already invested in this year’s parades.

15k in a month is a tough ask unless they have a lot of money to spend to make it happen.

Amazing they’ve gotten as many signatures as they have running basically a part time campaign.

Fun fact I heard. The city will pay overtime rates for out of area cops but not their own nopd officers who can and are ready to work the season. Feels like there’s a kick back in there somewhere

So you think NOPD is so well staffed that the cops on the route won't have to work their regular posts?

You think NOPD doesn't pay overtime?

Sounds like the Krewes have to organize and pay because the city and Cantrell can't bother themselves with that.

Was it always like this? I thought the city handled all staffing and payment of police whether NOPD, Sherriff, or auxiliary personnel.

Still do.

The sheriff, a real piece of work herself, couldn't handle the task because the window given was too small. The krewes probably had better contacts and ability to get outside officers anyway.

Also, incompetent, but the window certainly offered no ability to overcome her incompetence.
