You would think that I would be used to this by now, but it still blows my mind that they can say/do these things without fear of any significant backlash. If the tables were turned...they would be screaming for Bodi White to step down.

I'm certain that there are many qualified people right here in this town. What I am not certain of is if any of them would want to commit political suicide.
Early after her victory, she had a broad spectrum of support. While Kip had the smarts to get a guy like Walter Monsour and later William Daniel, and like them or not, they were political types who gave him strength. When Kip first took office, the great fear, even then, was that BR would become the next Jackson. With his appointments, you could tell he had something different in mind.
Broome is tilting toward her flank, so maybe you're right. Politicos and insiders may see her as weak. If she has to make picks like this that satisfy her core, then she really doesn't have her core very solid or she isn't very smart. This choice certainly doesn't help her, as she needs a skilled operator, not a poster child.

Well said. I was still living in BR early in Kip's tenure. I don't recall him ever engaging in the kind of racial politics that Broome had made her MO.

Look. Bodi White is dumb as a bag of rocks. That he couldn't beat Broome in a primary or runoff shows just how weak of a candidate we had in this election.

I completely agree about White but I voted for him for the exact same reason I voted for Trump.
Defense.
Why did we have such shitty candidates last year? There are tons of smart, level headed people out there so why won't they run for office?

I thought about running. But my wife was pregnant and I didn't feel like fundraising

The smartest thing Kip Holden did was hiring Walter Monsour as his first CAO

Yup. All 4 of his CAO's were respected and could handle the pressures of being pulled in multiple directions or bullied by the council.

The folks over at the BRAF and BRAC have to be watching in horror at what this stupid woman is doing to their city.

Apparently the police chief has done a pretty good job. SWB has stuck her finger in his eye, threatening to fire him , replace him, get rid of whitey, or whatever.
It would be human nature for him to want to get even with her. She has now brought a criminal on board with a violent temper. His imminent arrest for violence, DWI, cocaine, etc. would be a perfect payback for treating the chief so poorly.
She could not even publicly support him if he is caught red handed.

I think Broome is a very weak mayor and will be easy to beat.

Broome is hell-bent on replacing Dabadie with a black police chief. It will happen one way or another. If she can't fire him without cause, then she will spend hundreds of thousands of tax payer dollars to buy him out. That right there should tell you all you need to know about her intentions for Baton Rouge.

Does she have hundreds of thousands to buy him out? I thought they were crying poor locally also?

I bet he is going to be extra careful. To most people, he is already unemployable. Another arrest would do him in.

There's plenty of people that aren't extra careful enough to notice their busted tail light and back of crack under the seat.
