Mr Schwamp. His identity is a subject of debate on TAGS forums. He's not listed in any credits and anyone involved in the show's production who would know is likely deceased. His real name may be lost to history unless a family member comes forward.

Why Andy never locked up Peggy is beyond me. Wife material don't get any better than her.

Maggie Peterson. She just passed away last year. My Great Aunt sang with her in a couple of shows in Nola and Nashville back in the 60's. She supposedly had an incredible voice.

The one with the scratchy smoker’s voice trailed only Howard Sprague in my least favorite Andy Griffith Show characters rankings.

Andy Griffith was laying serious pipe. Don’t let that Aw Shucks Andy Taylor persona fool ya.

Howard had a great episode where he did standup comedy on a TV show and roasted all the Mayberry folks. His bit about Clara and her relatives is a favorite.

I also enjoyed the one where he retired to a tropical island, only to quickly become bored out of his mind.

Supposedly he had an affair with Helen Crump. Also his wife Barbara was in a couple of choir episodes
