I support this tax. Hell, charge me $200/year.
I'm pretty sure NOPD starting salary is around $55k now.

I am pro law enforcement but am 100% against more property taxes. Sorry officers but the administration needs to give you a raise from existing funds. We have one of the highest sales taxes in the nation and this will increase our already high property taxes. This administration hasn’t yet met a tax they don’t Love. Libraries, BREC, COA, CATS, tram studies, etc, etc, etc. Enough already.
And frick this guy for proposing this. It is a shrewd political move, it passes and he is a hero. It fails and he gets to say he tried. If he truly wanted a raise for BRPD, he would propose it from existing funds and fight to carve it out. Instead he hits the easy button.

No way should a BR police officer, who do a damn good job as a whole, make less than an EBR teacher, who do a terrible job as a whole and work 4 months less per year.
And how about the government show us they can be responsible with tax dollars before asking for another tax hike.

Based on what? And don’t whip out tax rates from some jurisdiction with a low sales tax and amazing public schools. Our tax rates, need to pay for private schools and 10% sales tax combine to make us heavily taxed.
ETA: You’re in Houston? How do you know about our property tax rates? I get educated every December when the Sheriff sends me a love letter. Really fricks up the Christmas spirit.

I agree I am not against BRPD officers getting a bump in pay to market value.

I am against a metro council that is not fiscally responsible.
If the tax proposal comes up I will vote, No!
What I am against is COA (glad we can send staff to watch elderly people on a cruise to Mexico while the people that need meals on wheels wait to get on the list) library (sitting on excess money), Brec, school system (dump more taxes in it no improvement), city parish wants to spend $1.5 million to lure grocery stores to low income areas (doesn't NBR have an economic development group that should look for private funds or grants to do this?), mayor screwed up on the federal police camera grants, and all the studies we spend money on in this parish. Seems like they are wreckless with our tax dollars and they need to get this under control before I vote for another tax.

How about, divert the massive amount of taxes we already pay to BRPD? Why when something needs funding, the first response is always to increase the taxes more? Why not, cut fricking spending, and learn to live within your means, government. I'll be voting a firm NO.

EBR has one of the highest tax outlays in the country and is for the most part a shithole. Do better with the money you already have.
