No. Teachers at least go to college for their career. Reward the cops that have a degree in law enforcement.

right now? cops have been shitty forever. rise of smart phones just put it on display for the entire world to see how stupid and corrupt the bottom dwellers are. the good cops are worth every penny.. the average cop not so much.

The amount they're asking for is 1.7% of the budget. They can shuffle some funds if they really want this to happen.

anyone this day and age that cant admit that a cop has one of the hardest jobs on the planet per their pay is in denial. being paid 30k to go into deadly situations where the slightest mistake under pressure is blasted on the news where the communities youre policing are calling for your head is a risky choice of employment

I would be cool with this if they curb the OT abuse in the police department. Ain't nobody logging more than 20 legitimate hours of OT/week, yet there are some averaging 40 hours/week/year for YEARS at a time. There's no way it's not being completely abused and essentially robbing the taxpayers.

They can cut back the several dozens of cops making well in excess of $120k based on their ‘overtime’. No doubt these high earners are essentially stealing from the city. Their income could help boost the pay of the rank and file employees.
There was a thread a while back on the EBR city employees’ salaries and the vast majority of the top earners were cops.

it's also true that a rich history of police abuse, excessive force, and a culture of corruption (blue wall of silence) is what put them in hot water to begin with.

Higher starting salary for cops= more people desiring to apply. More applicants= larger pool to pick talent/"good recruits" from.

less cops. less routine traffic stop bullshite. less locking people up for smoking weed.
more resources, heavy training, top of the line gear, and dramatically better pay for the good ones.
