Sounds like this is evidence of a fairly recent mass extinction event. Don’t see why either side would think of it anymore than that. If it was the Great Flood, is that some big revelation? There are many ancient text that pass down a story of a global flood, so it has some credibility as a possibility. It’s also possible it could have been caused by something else, but either way I don’t see how this proves or disproves anything religious.

So most species of mammal appeared in the mammalian explosion within a HUNDRED THOUSAND YEAR PERIOD?

I’m sure this thread will be an involved foray into scientific literature and not turn into a religion thread immediately

You can suggest an extinction event occurred in that time frame to reset things more than God.

I'll bet you love Ken Ham.
The whole scientific world are dumbasses, but you, some guy, have it all figured out.

The range of "100,000 to 200,000" years is more than you'd get if a ship dumped them all out during the life time of Noah.

the hardest thing for atheists and christians alike seems to be considering that they are wrong. It's so hard for some folks to just say "i don't know"

I think people are really misinterpreting things here
If they're referring to 90% of animals currently on earth it would make more sense
This isn't 90% of all animals ever. Extinction events and evolution have wiped out a lot of species that no longer exist.

replacing old coding with new coding is not even hard for us inside the code. You guys fail to understand you are both right and wrong. Its really not that hard.

It's funny how creationists will embrace an article about a scientific paper without knowing anything about it other than it appears to support their view. Yet they will reject science regarding virtually every other issue.
The same can be said for the anti-vaccine and anti-GMO crowd. They generally love science re climate change, evolution and the like, but reject all of it on their pet issues.
Most humans are irrational.

The number that gets drummed around is like 99% of all species that ever lived have gone extinct. Maybe someone like Volvagia if he's around can confirm that number.
But, otherwise this just seems to be describing a genetic bottleneck, which is pretty common throughout time.

People do this all the time, especially when it comes to their political beliefs. They want sources that let them say "See? This just proves what I've been saying all along!" Anything that doesn't meet that goal gets ignored, and if it turns out their source didn't say what they thought it did, that gets ignored too.
