The OweO version:

The ISIS thing makes me laugh. I can be completely wrong, but I would be the farm that ISIS had absolutely nothing to do with this. ISIS is as weak as they have ever been so they look for anything to take credit for to show they are still a threat.
And then, fact.... LINK
quote:
"We have not been able to find a real lie from ISIS," said Katz, who follows the group's social media obsessively with a critical eye. "Despite the fact that they are a terrorist organization, they want to provide their followers and supporters with authentic information."
Joscelyn said he can't think of an example of an outright false claim by ISIS in the U.S. and western Europe. There are plenty of exaggerations — on death tolls, for instance — and the statements shouldn't be assumed to be true. (For instance, the ISIS claim for the attack on a concert in Manchester didn't describe a suicide bomber, and had slightly inflated numbers of the dead and wounded.)

But in the West, "when ISIS claims something ... usually there's something there," Joscelyn said.

Meh, if they were actively seeking some pawn for years on the down low, it isn't nearly as astronomical.
I don't think a few dozen members of ISIS who are having to rely on outside support to remain in one town in the entire country are going to be focusing time and energy working on converting someone like Stephen Paddock. If that was going to be their angle, there are a lot more people here who they'd influence with a lot less effort. At least, that's the way it seems to me.
Odds of a 64 year old white man, who is highly educated and fairly wealthy listening to anyone connected to ISIS? That's hard for me to fathom, and certainly not among the first scenarios I picture when trying to figure this guy out.

Trump's going to probably speak from Las Vegas shortly.
If there was a thought to give us more info today, you can be sure he will be the one delivering the good news.
Hope we find out more.

These aren't liquid assets though. How are you heavily invested and still gambling hundreds of thousands of dollars and throwing money around to family and girlfriends?
You and I know people that have the type of money this guy does, and they don't live lavishly. It is just suspicious to me.
Borrow against the asset?
And even $50k in a retirement account in 1985 should be worth $1M+ today...without doing anything but reinvesting dividends.

These are essentially the questions that I have posted in a few different threads. What is so broken in our society that this is how folks choose to lash out in this fashion?
Lack of faith, shame, virtue? The desire for accumulation of wealth? Media or advertising? social media? The thrusting of machinery (smart phones, PCs, tablets etc) into our lives?...
Guns do NOT make these folks lash out...they make it easier but WHY are they lashing out?
Maybe I should take this to the Psyche Board...
There have been mass murderers since the beginning of time. Mass murdering is not a new thing. Are there more mass murders today versus 100 years ago? Yep, there's also more people on earth. There will always be mass murderers...always. There will always be evil in the world.

That is exactly the type of operation they would be going after, no?
Are you really now claiming there are just a few hundred Abu Sayef members left in the Philippines? Many go back in and out of society. You can't put a clear number on the operatives they have.

I checked and it does. Don't know what significance it has.
People can change N-numbers on aircraft, and you can also request not to have your N-number shared with flightaware. See, every university or booster plane in the country now during coaching searches.

He has no debt issues, which would mean he is a very successful gambler to have paid things back.

Yeah, he could have easily been withdrawing on that for a while but he would have had to have known he would probably run out on day at the rate he was going. It could very easily be just what it appears, but I won't be surprised one bit otherwise.

I will not contest some of what you say because neither of us can prove or disprove mass murderers from hundreds or thousands of years ago. By a % it just seems like it is increasing faster than the population. Maybe increasing population crowding is part of it...The AVAILABILITY of mass death is far higher now.

This guy was an accountant for Lockheed Martin. Think about that for a moment. Lockheed Martin is hiring the best and brightest for their positions. This guy was a very sharp accountant and knew how to work money. Also, gambling hundreds of thousands doesn't always equate to losing hundreds of thousands. I few big hits gambling large amounts and you could easily be set for life.

I don't know how many there are. But I don't think their presence is significant enough to raise an eyebrow via this girlfriend. It may be different if this was a middle eastern country. Do we know which part of the country she's originally from or where her family is? That might shed some more light, too.

Creates less opportunities which means less impact on society. Makes a man feel meaningless.
So, "take out as many as I can" becomes the end result of said impact on society.

The dude fired likely over 1000 rounds. Have you ever been on a duck or dove hunt, or to a shooting range? Shells go absolutely everywhere. Little piles get formed, and guys will kick them accidentally or on purpose. He was traveling between two windows, I'm sure he kicked shells everywhere. It all happened in 11 minutes with 10-12 different weapons most likely.
Plus he shot through the hotel room door it looks like 20-30 times which likely was a 3rd shooting position at least outside of the 2 windows.
Trying to make sense of a hotel room like that just doesn't make sense. The dude was a psycho, there's a good chance he put things in positions that make absolutely no sense to anyone but him.
