90-100mph winds out on the flats have been common the past couple of weeks.
Do lots of people live in those areas? It seems like category 2 hurricane winds would be damaging homes.

I've seen more than 35,000 people evacuated out of two towns. I've also seen a couple of reports of roofs being blown off earlier this afternoon. Winds, thankfully, should diminish as the night goes on.

Rocky Flats is an old WW2 site where they made gasses and bombs, it’s a wildlife sanctuary now nothing but rolling hills but neighborhoods start on the eastern edge.
Keep in mind it’s a lot of new build neighborhoods with no trees, young pines if anything. We’ve gotten siding ripped off in our neighborhoods lately but that’s about the extent of the damage from the wind

Wow. This is incredible. Dying in a fire is high on my list of how I don’t want to die.

Now we can blame the liberals in Colorado for global warming.

Drive through there this morning about 8 and wind was terrible!! Drive about 40 minutes and they’ve had at least an inch of snow everyday for past week

The springs was hit by a similar storm the week before last, the town is still a mess with trees and fences down. Having grown up watching hurricanes, I usually like to sit outside and watch the wind storms but this one was terrifying. Rather than side to side, the wind seemed to be coming straight down. It made a giant pine behind me split in two with half laying down one direction and the other the exact opposite. Some areas were predicted to get 150mph winds this time.
Eta: probably the craziest thing I saw was several cars at Whole Foods had their windows blown out, without flying stuff hitting them.

Lived in Denver for 3.5 years in the early 90s. Never saw anything like this around there. Terrible.

My power has been sporadic all day. In Boulder and wishing those in Superior, Louisville and possibly Lafayette prayers. The winds are supposed to be blowing all night.

Devastating to see, and I am shocked this is happening so late in the year. It has been so dry and we had days in the 70s early in December. It's honestly frightening to see how dry it is compared to the previous years we have been here.

Our friend’s condo is already gone. Think his parent’s house is too, or will be soon if not already.
Just had some wings and beers with that family at the Dark Horse in Boulder last week when the CU/KU basketball game was cancelled due to covid right before tipoff.

That's terrible. If they need anything, I know there are people in my neck of the woods organizing collections for clothes, etc.

My coworker and his family are staying at my house. His 2 story house burned to the ground. I can only imagine how many people are in the same situation.
