We have a joint checking. I also put 5% of my paychecks into a separate account in my name to pay for guns/hunting trips/lease dues. Keeps the peace in the house.

Ex wife and I did. That's how we ended up with so much debt. She was always overdrawn on her account

Joint checking account, but separate credit cards.

No. My wife had more money then me when we married, and she's 3 1/2 years younger than me. And we've been married 47 years.

Maybe so maybe not. I didn’t marry a woman who would come at me like that after buying something, but she also didn’t marry someone who goes and spends a boatload of money on dumb shite either
Neither did I, but don't think that what you think is an important purchase is always viewed the same as your spouse. Regardless of being "one unit" we are still people with various characteristics, ideas and emotions. Like I said, our way which again works for us, eliminates what alot of people fight about...money

We do only because she has a separate form of earnings that has to go to an account in her name for medical liability purposes (when she covers shifts for the other MDs in her group). We both have access to all of our banking, retirement, brokerage, Amex, etc accounts. She’s so financially illiterate she doesn’t understand why any of it means but we at least discuss it.
Kiiiiinda wild someone would hide this from their spouse. Especially when consumer debt can be tied to both parties when married.

We have joint checking and savings. All of our financial stuff we approach as a team. It’s our money and investments. With that being said, people need to do what works for them. I know couples who have separate accounts and they seem fine. To each their own.

Going through a divorce right now, do it if you aren’t already.
You can have a linked account to put your part in.

I agree. If you’re gonna do it for reasons stated, you should want to have a separate property regime. (La law lingo)

No, I have no money it all belongs to her.

The money she made when I was in school was our money.
She’s in school and now I’m making the money, again it’s our money.
Everything is ours. It’s called marriage.

My wife of 30 years doesn't even know what bank our money is in. I give her an allowance each Sunday for the week. It's worked well so far.

And if you die before teaching her about some basic finances, she’s gonna be in trouble. Seen it happen to both male and female widows.

preach! going through that with the mil, her husband left her in pretty good shape and she's squandered almost everything, didn't let us in on anything until she'd run out of options, helping her get her shite in order now

We do too but young people separate everything. I pay this and this. You pay that and that. WTF is this? A marriage or not?
They see parents getting divorced and the guys see their dad ls getting cleaned out.

Separate. Not for any particular reason other than we never went to the trouble of joining them. It’s worked out because whatever each choose to spend our individual money on is our own business and the other doesn’t have room to gripe much.

Married 23 years. Have a joint account for house expenses. Separate accounts for everything else. Have never had any problems. Neither of us worry about what the other does with their money. Works for us.
