Very simple. My wife wanted a new car. Asked her criteria - luxury and road noise. Easy. Let’s go look at the X3 and Audi Q5. She liked the X3. Ok so go home and I’ll call you later when it’s time to get your car.

She nearly screwed me on the first car deal I ever did. So now I just send her away after she picks out what she wants.

Who, specifically, pays for it? Well we both work and all the money goes to joint accounts. So we both are paying for it. But I manage the finances and have final approval in everything that gets bought. So yeah, I bought a car for my wife. And if you pay cash when financing is this dirt cheap, you’re a moron.

Getting ready to buy a new truck, gonna have to bite the bag. I figure I’ve made my share of good deals on vehicle purchases I owe them one.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and you can down vote all you want but I smell a concerted ,concocted, lie about a chip shortage. It is just too convenient too believe at this point. Robots make these chips. The robots make these chips faster than you can blink your eyes. They can work 24/7. This is no longer adding up.

I wouldn't buy a vehicle right now unless I had to. I'd wait for the market to settle back into normal conditions.

Think about the start/stop nature of production, too. I imagine they're having the same labor shortages, replacements, etc. Maybe getting a little lax on quality control due to shortages?

I wouldn't buy anything of any significant complexity right now.

New normal. Embrace it or get left behind.

Bought a Mach 1 ‘Stang last month for sticker and the dealer through in leather seats ($1,700 cost). Sticker is pretty good for a Mach 1 - and they gave me $3k more for my trade than I paid new a year and 16K miles ago.

I normally shop a 500 mile radius online and never pay anything close to sticker, but with the inflated trade value and this being a limited production new vehicle, I considered this to be a solid deal.

ETA: Most dealers across the country are asking $6-10K over sticker for these.

I bought a new F-250 in March and paid less than MSRP since I bitched about it having 700 miles on it and them trying to sell it as new.

Our new Project Manager just recently approved a vehicle allowance of $800/month so now I'm only paying for the insurance.

I paid 58K for my Sierra on a sticker of 63K in May, had the GM supplier discount as well as some additional off of MSRP. Had to travel to Houston to get it though.

Saw a Bronco for sale this week with a sticker of 46K and a additional markup of 50K. Yes, you read that right.

#2- Has anyone bought a vehicle in the last 6 months for straight up MRSP?

Me. Went to the dealer less than 6 months ago. Told them the car I wanted, color, specs and options. Closest match they could find was Tennessee. Wrote them a check for under MSRP and they went and got the car the next day.

Ordered a 2022 F-350 in October for under MSRP plus 2K loyalty coupon. Got a great price for my trade also. Should get it next week.

5K over MRSP for "market conditions".

If nobody was paying it, they wouldn’t charge it.

Some people have been stupid enough to let salespeople get away with peeling MSRP + 5k from them.

No way I'd ever pay more for any car, much less over. Bought 2 toyotas thus year and got discounts on both. Not as much as previously, but made it up in trade in.
