I might could see how some of the horses in the parades could be startled if you threw them by them, but I doubt it.

You sure as hell wouldn't startle a NOPD horse with that crap.

I'm in support of banning all, except...

The placing of private portable toilets in the public right of way, including neutral grounds.

The placing of tents, grills and other personal items in the public right of way.

Unless snap pops have technologically advanced since I last used one, they were no louder than the sound of a twig breaking. Hell, we'd pop them between our fingers as kids. I have also never seen a single horse get spooked by them.

Exactly. You mean to tell me that these highly trained police horses that deal with loud music and hordes of drunkasses on Bourbon St get spooked by some snap pops?

also from that link
quote:

Parking on Napoleon and St Charles will be prohibited on BOTH sides of the neutral ground, not just the parade side, starting 2 hours before the parade.

No more UHauls and pickups with porta potties and kegs along the route.

I understand the neighbors not wanting to see porto potties lined up all over the place, but the city really needs to step up and do something about having an area with a shitload of them or something.
People need places to piss.

This. There is NO WAY anyone would mistake snap pops for gunshots.

Will these pass as a package deal? Or will each be voted on individually.

Ladder assholes are the worst especially when they are a foot from the floats passing by. On the other hand, some of the tents, couches, kegs etc set up are a pain in the arse, but I enjoy the tailgate style atmosphere on the neutral grounds to a certain extent.

On another note, I've seen it posted a few times but Thoth has indeed told its riders no spears this year. I also saw an Endymion rider said the same thing. Any other krewes following this trend?

Truthgiver must be one of the ones who ropes off areas and puts the ladders up close

I think he means throwing the beads at King Kong and Mama Kong (at least I hope).

Endymion has been spear free for a while

They were very useful when you had locals trying to reach over the side of the float and steal your beads. My friend use to sit on the ground and used the spear to whack any hands that came over grabbing for beads.

The rules currently on the table are backed by Mayor Mitch Landrieu and enjoy wide support among council members. They would forbid:

Throwbacks (tossing throws back to the floats), subject to a fine of $250.
what about the bacchus floats designed for this?

Chaining ladders together.
good

Placing ladders closer than 6 feet to the curb.
great enforce the law already on the books

Roping off private areas.
This is going to be hard to enforce, plus I feel if you have been there for 10+ hours, it's shitty when someone just walks in front of the spot you have been holding

Selling "snap pops" and stink bombs.
sticking snap pops in straws and shotting them at the floars used to be a lot of fun
Riding the exterior of a vehicle in a parade.

The placing of private portable toilets in the public right of way, including neutral grounds.
City needs to do more to provide places to pee

The placing of tents, grills and other personal items in the public right of way.

fine with this

I would also say no setting up before 5am the day of a parade too.

Same here. This is my first year riding as a member and I'm pretty disappointed we can't throw/hand them any more. Hopefully this is a temporary thing but unfortunately its most likely a permanent ban
