So how will more kids in public schools cause parents to give a shite about their kid's education?

It won't. The same parents/kids who don't give a shite will still not give a shite. But raising the population of kids/parents who do give a shite (in schools across the state) by disbanding some of the mom-and-pop private schools who only serve to keep kids segregated... (I mean, let's be honest) will hopefully make the schools better overall.

If a bunch of well-to-do rich New Englanders move to Louisiana, you're still going to have the meth trailers, the ghettos, and the culcha but the McMansions and nice neighborhoods that pop-up will detract from the shittiness. Same concept.

The idea is that hopefully by raising the quality/quantity of good students in our public schools, it will water-down the bad.

Lousiana is also unique in that it has a lot of relatively inexpensive Catholic schools even in smaller towns

Other places private school costs more

So your solution has nothing to do with fixing the problem, just putting some fancy window dressing on it so it isn’t as noticeable?

Why don’t you not be a hypocrite and just go ahead and put your kids in one of these bad public schools.

You seem awfully triggered by me pointing out that it seems like Louisiana has some education problems, especially for someone who doesn't live here...

You're right though. Our education system is functioning perfectly. No need to change it.

Worst schools in America: Read up, brah

As is, public schools benefit from Private Schools by being able time split the budget by less students.

Pretty sure the public schools couldn’t handle the influx if private schools were shut down.

It's a simple risk assessment. You can either have your kid get a shitty education because the bulk of the classroom time is used to deal with the trouble makers or you can send your kid elsewhere so they don't have to deal with it. Let's face it, a certain demographic gives zero fricks about their child's education except when they're causing inconvenience for the parents.

When you say this, you're saying black people can't afford or be accepted to private school. Couldn't be further from the truth.
that's awfully optimistic

Tie welfare and food stamps to kids’ grades and disciplinary action. Start at X amount and take away for everything below a C and every time they’re disciplined at school.

Kidding, but would probably work better than what we’re doing now which is nothing.

I just think it’s funny how you think OTHER PEOPLE should put their kids in bad public schools to make them seem better, yet you admit in your first post that you are unwilling to do so yourself.

Typical virtue signaling SJW.

And I do live and grow in Louisiana, moved back from Memphis about 5 years ago.

Please link to where I said that?

I am keenly aware of how bad our public schools are. I just don’t think we should force people out of private schools in a foolhearted effort to make them better.

We’ve seen it countless times. If you do that all it will do is hurt the good students now forced into the bad public school. It will do nothing to actually improve the system itself.

Again typical liberal fantasy land you are living in.

This is very true. Most places, lower middle class folks can't afford private school. Catholic schools in La are generally affordable and higher quality.
And it isnt always about race. I know, that's heresy to say, but most people I know had parents and grandparents that went to the same Catholic school as a part of tradition.
In other words, going farther back than public school integration.

Honest answer:

It probably can’t be done without changing the state constitution with rehearsals to education funding and, more importantly, a change in the culture of LA to one in which people actually value education (this actually goes beyond racial issues as poor, uneducated white people are just as unmotivated to improve as some minorities)

You need to peep my post history if you think i'm an SJW.

It's a proposed solution to a crumbling education system. Counter with another option if you feel it's a bad proposal.

This is a terrible map. There’s only a 7% range from the top quintile to the bottom quintile. I think just having a spreadsheet showing all 50 states would be more effective. So is Louisiana at 16% or 50%? Or higher? Help me out here.

Isn't it remarkable that those northern liberal states that love more and more government - and fight any kind of accountability of educators - are among the highest percentages of private school usage? Just more Democratic "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrisy.

Yes you proposed a solution to remove OTHER PEOPLE’S choice in education to essentially bus them into public schools. Yet admit you won’t do that with your own kids.

That is SJW 101

It be what it be.
We live a few hundred yards from my mother in law. Family matters.

We have a public school a few blocks away, but I’m not going to fight the public school battle with the inept administration and the stupid trash. My kids school has like 98% two parent homes and a lot of teachers that care about them.

It sucks that 30 plus % of the kids go to private schools yet we still pay taxes for shitty public schools.
