Isn't it ironic?

The real ironic thing about retail is Sears.

One of the main reasons Sears went out of business was because they refused to embrace the online shopping ecosystem. Their stores wouldn’t even honor the online pricing on their own website.

Sears invented mail order shopping. Sears was the Amazon of the early 20th century.

There has to be a metaphor in there somewhere.

But, it does reflect the realities of modern retail.

That, and partnering with K-Mart.

What does Dave Grohl have to do with the song Ironic?

I was involved on some of the work on the one here in BR. Long story short - old malls that are still hanging on are the perfect place for Amazon Dist Centers. The infrastructure is already in place all around the site.

Barnes and Noble also doesn't honor their online pricing in the store.

Taylor was the tour drummer for Morissette on the Jagged Little Pill tour. Dave lured him away to join the Foo Fighters. So oddly there is actually a connection beyond Dave and Alanis once sharing the same groomer.

I can remember my mum ordering things from the Sears catalog.

Does not fit the definition of irony.

Irony is digging up a dead Amazon delivery driver and selling the body parts as Prime steak.

Would be more ironic if they did it to old book stores.

I think it’s great. Online sales are here and they aren’t going anywhere. I’d much rather see Amazon converting malls to warehouses than them sitting abandoned.

Sure glad I got a 200 piece Craftsman tool set before they sold out and started being made in China!

Eddie Lampert intentionally sunk both Sears and Kmart to profit from their real estate.

The great irony is nothing she sang about was ironic...

ETA. like- Rain on your wedding day sucks, but it's not ironic.

They had some surprising shipping speeds back in the day. My dad was a telegraph operator then a depot agent for Illinois Central Railroad during the late 40s to late 60s.

He told stories of putting out NOLA bound mailbags with letters for Sears and Roebuck in the mornings. Packages were delivered off Chicago bound trains the same day in the afternoon. He said this happened 4 or 5 times when he was there.

He said 1 or 2 day delivery was common place and most packages were in wooden slat crates.
