Annexation of the Mall of Louisiana could likely invalidate the current petition process
I just dont follow this part
The way I read it was that because the petition included the MOL and BR General, if they were then to be annexed by the city, the current St. George petition would be invalidated.
I'd imagine they would have to submit a new petition that didn't include those areas, which would start the whole process over.

BR should annex my toilet next.

so we should just accept that the br school system and leaders have no fricking clue what they are doing?
my kids do not even go to public school in br, but my tax dollars pay for them.
i guess me demanding that they do a better job is unjust

Yeah, frick those guys for seeing the glaring problem of the shitty public schools and instead of sitting on their asses and complaining, they actually tried to do something about it to better their children's education.
The nerve of people not wanting to waste tax dollars on a shitty school system. I mean, wanting the best for your child is so 1990's. If only we could be more like you, and let laziness and apathy reign supreme.

Do you even BR Metro Council and Kip bro?

I still think there's a chance the metro council votes against this annexation.

I thought all of the people moving to neighboring parishes were the ones leaving, not the ones trying to improve where they live in EBR...oh whelp.

I voted for St George, and would vote again...Mall of LA is already a piece of crap. You can't even walk through it without being harassed by Kiosk people and middle easterner's. Is that how all malls are now? I don't go there very much. And does the cinema by the mall turn into a shite show at night?

Does the MoL still profit? What the frick do people need there? It just seems like for the long term, let BR keep have that. The last time I was there maybe in 2012, it seemed like it was going in the direction of the Mall of Cortana. Many vacant store spaces, and the ones that were occupied just seemed fashionably time sensitive (trendy bullshite that won't last). Maybe Dillard's and Sears are keeping it afloat? William Sonoma and Pottery Barn probably to alright. Just seems like if I were voting to succeed from Baton Rouge, I wouldn't want to take that time bomb with me.

Trying to improve where they live they should work to make the City itself better, not try to ruin it.

quote:I don't know if 2013 was a profitable year for the merchants at the MoL but the EBR sales tax records show (according to an article in the Advocate a couple of weeks ago regarding how much sales taxes were collected at the Mall) that total sales at the Mall were approximately $450 million last year.
Does the MoL still profit?

how did central and zachary survive

The toddler esque attitude that the Baton Rouge government is taking to this situation is pretty fricking disturbing.
Annexing the most valuable parts of the parish is actually the smartest thing the parish/city government has done in the last 60 years. It was only made possible (without large expense and effort that no one would have gone through) because the Supreme Court invalidated federal preclearence in Shelby County.

How would annexation impact their right to vote?
Because people like me living near the northeastern tip of the city in the Inniswold area would be lumped in with them - and since there are petition signers from this area it would invalidate all signatures and they'd have to start over.
If you don't like what's going on by the rules in place, just change the game. Duh.

The problem can't even manage to put in 40 hours a week and you expect them to work for the good of the community? What fantasy world did you come from?

Secondly, Zachary was already a city when it formed its new school system, for which it raised its taxes to develop.
Central is a tiny fraction of the size and population of the proposed St George area.
