St. George can build their own white mall within the proposed city limits.

This may be more revealing than you realize.

So are you saying money from the unincorporated area is being redistributed to these entities when it should be going to EBRSO and parish court instead?

First, where's the evidence of this? Do you have a per constituent breakdown of how these entities are funded?

Second, is that really what you think this is about for either side?

And it's not like these are frivolous services. As a resident of the unincorporated area myself, I want BRPD and city court to be properly funded because keeping crime at bay within city limits is the best hedge against it ending up at my front door.

So, the Baton Rouge General doesn't want to be in St. George?

Sooner or later ascension and Livingston parish will build nicer strip malls like Juban Crossing that will capture the sales that the mol had. These malls will also attract the anchor stores because they follow the money. People also like strip malls where they can drive up to the store they want to go to over having to walk across the mall to get to the store they want to go to.

Rent is also more expensive in an indoor mall compared to a nice outdoor strip mall.

The people with money will be to scared to shop at the mol and go to where they feel are safer. Some people at this time feel the mol is a dangerous place and that attitude will grow over time.

The internet will chop away at the rest of its sales which sales taxes in a lot of cases are not collected.
Mol has a limited shelf life.

To me mol and general are stupid to make this move.
They should have waited to see how the election went.
Now they are stuck paying cats tax even if they get a small grace period.

So you believe they could have petitioned to be annexed by BR after SG held a vote to include them in their incorporation? I seriously doubt they had that option.

General Properties and The Baton Rouge General Hospital as well as Costco and Celtic all REQUESTED annex into the city limits because they saw the writing on the wall that the uncertainty of another city and the absolute lack of concrete planning, evidence and transparency as well as the very good probability of tax increases was not in their or those that trade their stockholders best interest. It's a business decision first and foremost and in my opinion, the stability they continue to have is a very good thing and the right decision.

To blame city leaders for large corporations requesting annexation is pretty silly.

St George should regroup and really concentrate on the original effort for their schools and I do believe they have some very valid concerns that people are aware of now and willing to help. BRAF is on board as well as other numerous organizations and I believe in the end they will get what they originally set out for, if not in an independent school district a much needed overhaul of the school system.

And in my opinion St George was DOA because of the people it allowed to be out front. Had other leadership emerged it probably would have had a better shot. I'm in the district but I'll vote against a city if it would ever come to that but I wholeheartedly support their school effort.

You sir, should write a paper on this. You will be the only advocate of the benefit of strip malls(besides strip mall owners) in the world.

I wasn't trying to be funny. And furthermore, you of all posters should criticize the very least.

St george residents don't live in the city. Why should they leave their own area, and go into a neighboring city to help them when there is work to do in their own back yard?

Ughhhh who built the infrastructure of "St. George" when it was nothing but cattle fields?

Hint. It wasn't the people of St. George.

You are right, it wasn't the people of st. George who built the infrastructure, it was a contractor that built it.
Taxpayers funded it, and that includes people in st. George

The people of the entire City-Parish funded it.

Now that it's all built St. George wants to pull out.

That's B.S. plain and simple.

It's done deal now anyway.

St. George is D.O.A. with the Mall and Hospitals out. Not to mention they have to redraw the map and redo the entire petition from scratch.

Next up LSU South and the Casino.

So why don't you donate to Livingston Parish Sheriff and Ascension Parish Sheriff to keep the crime at bay there so the thugs won't spill over into EBR? I'll tell you why you don't, because you aren't forced to.
