re: Rum House Review

Ate there last week. I've been to the new orleans location, and it was ok.

This location, however, isn't that good. We got there on a thursday at 7. 1.5 hour wait. So we snagged a couple bar seats and ate. The food just isn't that good. Too much cilantro on everything. We had the calamari as an appetizer. All i could taste was breading, and it tasted a little burnt. I ordered the tacos and each one had 1/2 lb. of cilantro on it. Not one of them was knock your socks off.

It's a good place, if you want a quick lunch or something. But any wait over 20 minutes just isn't worth it. We'll go back, once the hype dies down in about 3 months.
Next question. TWP 1500 or 100 series?

Thanks for the info.
Also, can i get TWP anywhere in Baton Rouge?
That's a good deal. Are all deck stains the same color, in regards to brands? I want to go pick out some stains to test them out on some scrap wood. So if i find some samples of thompsons cedar, for example, would that equate, color wise, to TWP?
My deck and pergola build is nearly complete. All i have left is handrails and a set of stairs. I used treated lumber. A few questions.

1) How long to wait for the wood to "dry out"? The deck has been complete for about 1-2 months. The Pergola has been up and complete about 2-3 weeks. All wood was purchased new, within a week of the build.
2) What is the best stain recommended? I want to stain it very lightly, just slightly darken the deck.
3) Do they make a stain/sealer combo?
4) What's the best way to stain the pergola? I have to stain the pergola posts (6x6), beams (2x8), joists (2x6), and slats (1x4). Just wondering if i have a lot of hand painting to do, or if a sprayer does a quality job.
5) do you recommend sanding the deck prior to placing?
6) Do i need to apply a deck cleaner, if the wood is new? I'm scrubbing bird shite off the deck today and removing the wood stamps.

Well if the commercial fisherman were legit they have records of their catches and the prices they were paid on state docs called "trip tickets". If they were actually catching more and not reporting then screw them anyway for trying to cheat the system.

My wife's cousins are shrimp trawlers. They were hired by BP to assist in the clean-up. They had a legitimate claim against BP, as it did affect their shrimping season. They also suffered affects from cleaning up the spill. They are doing better, now. But shortly after it happened, each one of them were coughing up shite months after the cleanup finished.

This is a small example of legitimate claims.

it seems BP now thinks there is fraud committed as businesses who may or may not have suffered losses are being compensated.

Of course there was fraud. Millions of dollars of fraud. But like you said, it's kind of BP's fault too, for basically just throwing money at the problem. They did not do any due diligence on the smaller claims, and their lack of oversight is biting them in the arse.

The Rialto Unified School District is defending an eighth-grade assignment that asks students to debate in writing whether the Holocaust was “merely a political scheme created to influence public emotion and gain.”

What if the question was about another subject. I got it. What if the question was worded like this:

Debate in writing whether Slavery was merely a political scheme created to influence public emotion and gain.

I guarantee you with 100% certainty you would not be saying the same thing you are now. Not to mention, the school would be boycotted, Sharpton and Jackson would be out front, the President would say there is no cause for this kind of hate speech, and every media outlet would attack the question as absurd.

You know damn well what this teacher was doing with this question. There are elements of the left and white supremacists who believe the holocaust was made up. However, the left are the ones in charge of the schools. So it's ok to have questions like this.

If the annexation of the Mall of La and BRGH is what "kills" the incorporation effort (and I don't know that it will....the CP council might not vote to annex those areas....it still takes 7 CP council votes to annex an area), then all those other entities you listed weren't responsible for "killing" it. Your complaining just sounds like serious sour grapes and scapegoat-ism.

From what i understand, it kills the petition due to the wording? As i understand the wording of the petition and this annexation, nullifies the petition.

If you're an EBR resident, put pressure on your school board member, CP member and all other elected representatives just like I keep doing.

If you know Browning personally encourage him to run for office, hopefully for Mayor-President of EBR.

From what I've learned about him during this effort, I'd not only vote for him but I'd contribute to his campaign and volunteer to help him get elected. But I wouldn't piss on Bodi White or Lionel Rainey if they were on fire. The same goes for John Delgado.

I agree with what you are saying.

Don't just be a bitch-and-complain type and then wonder why nothing changes.

Yeah, if only there was a way we could maybe petition for change....

For me personally, this just reinforces our plan for our child (due in the fall). The goal has always been private school, because we would never put our child in the BR school system if we had the means not to. It just would have been nice to have an actual viable option, instead of paying for my kids tuition, plus my taxes going towards someone else's tuition. BR schooling will not change, at least not within the next 3-5 years. Which means more people will keep moving to prairieville and the same frick ups that are currently running this city will avoid addressing the schools at all costs because they have no idea how to fix them, nor have any inclination to fix them, as long as they can act the way they do, and end up "winning" in the end. The status quo is here to stay, unless a new petition is drawn up.

So you think the owners of the Mall of La and the board of directors of the BR General Hospital were bullied and race baited and that's why they petitioned to be annexed into BR?

I wasn't referencing the businesses. I was referencing the tactics by BR metro Council members, Kip, BRFD, BR Cops, etc... towards the SG movement.

Move on to fixing the school issue now and first thing EBR needs to do is get rid of Taylor..

You do realize that fixing the school issue, or the lack thereof by EBR school officials, and BR bureaucrats is what led to the St. George petition in the first place, right?

Schools have always been the issue. BR fought tooth and nail against SG in order to retain their power over the failing school system. Now that they are winning the tax dollar battle, do you think they will actually do something to interrupt their power struggle? frick no. When has a government entity ever relinquished power to do what's right for the community, rather than for themselves?

Status quo preserved.

Just common sense would tell you that putting MERCURY into your blood stream at any age would be incredibly dangerous and you're promoting that we do it to infants?!?!?

Calm down Nancy. Humans ingest arsenic and are exposed to radiation daily. It's not like they are putting the baby in a vat of mercury when it exits the womb. Small doses.

But i'll take the history of modern medicine and the elimination of polio, small pox, measles, mumps, whooping cough, and the extermination of other medieval diseases/plagues over the irrationality of fearing a substance that is dangerous in large amounts.

The worst thing that could happen now for our parish would be for Holden or the EBR school board to take a victory lap and ignore the issues. That would royally piss me off.

You think the current politicians are going to do anything about the school system? They just proved they won't have to change their thinking when it comes to EBR schools.
Well, not sure if this squashes the forming of the city, but it does put a kink in things.

Congratulations, BR. Apparently bully tactics, race bating, and general political hackery can make a difference.

Now BR can continue to waste tax dollars on BR schools and continue to have extremely poor education for the children of BR. Congrats guys, you did it. Stupidity reigns supreme, and BR flight will continue to follow.

Yeah, frick those guys for seeing the glaring problem of the shitty public schools and instead of sitting on their asses and complaining, they actually tried to do something about it to better their children's education.

The nerve of people not wanting to waste tax dollars on a shitty school system. I mean, wanting the best for your child is so 1990's. If only we could be more like you, and let laziness and apathy reign supreme.

They are left with a stalk that they put salt on and they claim that it tastes just like celery.

Not sure if this is a sarcastic post. But you are talking about Thistle. I love thistle. Haven't had any since i was a kid.
Not so sure about misled, when i'm at the store and can't find farm to table green onions, i always check the packaged green onions to make sure they are US product, not Mexico. Mexican produce has been known to use human waste as fertilizer.
