New evacuation zone just announced for Santa Monica. The LAFD just extended the mandatory evacuation zone from 11th Street to Wilshire to Palisades Beach road.

So how well are these fires being contained at this point?
They aren't. There's no containing a fire in these winds.

The Palisades Fire has now met up with a previously burned area from a couple of weeks ago. So that should help out a little. If the winds would die down that would be fantastic.

The evacuation zone is getting closer and close to the Santa Monica Pier.

Those Santa Ana winds are brutal. Hard to imagine 75-100 mph winds on a perfectly sunny day.

If it gets in Santa Monica, things could get esp dicey. Those houses/neighborhoods are packed so closely together.

Doing some quick conversions, that is about 25 square miles with a lot of it populated.

They'll be under at least critical fire weather through tomorrow. I think the SPC even expanded tomorrow's critical area to the south a bit.

If you ever told me the 3rd st promenade would be under an evacuation order, I would have said you were clinically insane.
