Remember, you’re the parent 1st and their friend 2nd.

Youre never their friend. Theres too large of a gap between the society you grew up in, and the one they are experiencing. You cannot fill that role for them. You are their foundation, and their place to seek shelter during a storm

I remember telling my friends that my parents would freak out if I did XY or Z. That saved me from a ton of trouble, even though my parents never told me to avoid XY or Z

Root causes:

diminished family bonds, diminished spirituality, smartphones

Here here! Breakdown of family beginning with separation of Mom and baby at start of baby’s life (Mom working) is a big deal. I am not anti-feminism. I am pro family. Babies and Moms bonding. Husband and wife bond. Family bond. Family bond is oxygen to strength of health (all, not just mental) of people.

No doubt there are organic brain disorders and life situations that trip the poor mental health wire. As a society…get that family bond right and good happens.

How do you tell your kids that for your own good for later, I am delaying you getting a phone?

2 in rehab (4 divorces, bankruptcy) and one lazy/ never had a job.

The result of 3 kids (now in 50’s) raised by parents who thought just like you think.

Dare to parent.

You have been warned.

for sure all my kids were the last ones in their class to get phones. They didn't like it back then.

You tell them they can’t get a phone until they can pin you.

By being their parent instead of their friend. It’s not that complicated.

It's called parenting, retard. You are their parent, not their friend. You have to tell them no and other unpleasant things, for their own good, all the time. If you're not, you're a shitty parent.

For all the good they offer, smartphones will be what destroys humanity.

It is many things bullying, training your brain for the small dopamine hits, porn, news channels that are pretty much exclusively negative, social media feeds with people getting sick, people dying, fighting, yelling, crying, politics, endless prescription commercials, the ability to look up anything you are curious about such as symptoms of a disease or even if santa clause is real. The child brain is being pushed at an unnatural pace because the internet does not discrimnate

And it's not just children. Look how paranoid people have become. People don't let their junior high age kids wait alone at the bus stop anymore. I saw a comment the other day about how the changing tables were placed in bathrooms because if the door opened someone could see their baby without a diaper during that moment that the door was open. And everyone was agreeing with this women that it was awful for anyone to see them change their baby because the baby was naked for 2 minutes. With all the crime documentaries out there, people think that society in general is an unsafe place and security is the most important thing.

I think back to what my kids did in the 90s and how they waited alone for the bus and rode bikes around the neighborhood at 8-9 years old. We might be arrested for that today.

Social media has messed with minds so much! The world they see in their minds and the actual world don't match.

Smartphones and social media are today’s cigarettes. As a kid, a regular cell phone is all you need until you are at least 16. If you want to look at social media, then you can do that at home which in turn will give parents a better ability to monitor.
