The actual driving force for all this is a -10 standard deviation low sitting down over Mexico. There is a high pressure off to the east and the two are working together to point a fire hose of moisture towards Louisiana. Waves of energy in the jet stream are circling the baae of the low and kicking out over Texas and Louisiana. Each wave sets off a round of storms. What happens to those storms depends on a lot of small things that can't be forecasted well.

So even as this current batch of storms moves through the ingredients are coming together for another one later on and so on. This will repeat until the low finally lifts out towards the Plains.

So, should people be thinking of the rain more like "rain bands from a tropical system" instead of "front moving through"?

I think you're giving her way too much credit.

I bet as the car was sinking she was trying to accelerate to get out of the water.

Insurance really shouldn't have to cover that one. That's on the driver as much as setting it on fire intentionally.

I just showed that video to a guy I work with who is from S. Fla. He told me a story about a time they got a ton of rain like this and the parking lot at his office building flooded. He said that he watched people literally wade through thigh-high water out to their car, open the door and then get all pissed off when their car filled up with water.

Granted it's still raining, but I agree. All they did was make it worse because all the other schools were letting out around then anyway. I'm just sitting in my office til 5 or 5:30 when the rain ends then heading home
