Can the NO pumps keep up with rain like this? I know the majority of the rain is well west and north of there but I'm just curious.

Flash floods in Nola are terrible. I highly doubt the pumps can keep up with 12" in 24 hours but what do I know. Just personal experience seeing flash flooding in Nola. It doesn't take much to flood the streets

Pumps can do 1" the first hour and 1/2" each additional hour. So you answer is no.

I hope they can. I believe the storm surge is what fricked NOLA during Katrina

those maps are for a 3 day composite not 24 hours.

So, 10" from today-Saturday

Got it. I was translating what Shreveport bossier saw (20" in 24 hours). Thanks for clarifying

understood. And yes, those totals for 24 hours would most likely result in some flooding in New Orleans. The pumps would still be working so the flooding wouldn't be that severe.

There are plenty of jobs where you can change your predictions like that. The biggest difference is that the data for 99.9999% of jobs doesn't change like it does for weather.

To be honest, I don't see why people seem to be bothered by it. People seem to have the attitude of "damn, we didn't get flooded out of our homes by 20" of water, I'm pissed" and I just don't get it.

This the 24-hour prediction for Friday only. 7" in a day won't be easy for NOLA.
