In the South, I don't even trust the NWS' snowfall forecasts, even a few hours out, let alone days out.

Most weather apps don’t really give very good specific forecasts. The forecasts on them are typically automatically generated so there is little to no human logic, reason or analysis involved. I would not trust any specific snowfall accumulation amounts given by one of these apps, especially in a situation like this where things are changing with each model run and nothing is really certain right now.
One of our local guys pointed this out when the Apple weather app was showing like 20+ inches here.
Those apps like you said are generated without human analysis. So they don’t account for the different types of precipitation that can occur and just count it all together.

We have about 2" on our deck right now, and it's falling heavily at this time.

Off and on white out in Wichita now. Been coming down good for about 2 hours. I don’t have a gauge but I’d wager we’re at about 2ish inches now with a nice layer of ice underneath.

I should have added, we have white out conditions right now. It's snowing so hard, I can barely see the house across the street.

My worst experience in Wichita so far was that winter storm in 21. We were below freezing for over a week and below zero for like 5 days. I was planning my move back to Louisiana in earnest at that time.

For better insurance premiums?

Walked the yard to cover some plants and trees in flip flops and a tank top.
Worst winter storm ever.

Dallas-Fort Worth right on edge of heavy snowfall. We're talking upwards of 15" possible by Friday morning
Damn!
I knew we were going to get some really cold weather when they took away that extra hour of sunlight in October!

Just took the dogs out to play. Think we have 3 inches so far and it's falling hard.

74 and windy here. Headed out for a walk.
I don’t love being cold but a roux of winter would be nice. Smh.

Local weather estimated 5-8 inches here by 6pm, then turning to sleet and freezing rain overnight, with 1-3 more tomorrow. Central kentucky will be at a stand still tomorrow if that happens. Have your tanks full if you are driving this way, you might be sleeping in your car.

It’s going to be 70 at sunset tonight and 32 at sunrise tomorrow in Baton Rouge.

About the same at my place. A few more hours and things will get really interesting.

We have a table out back that we typically put our BBQ stuff on when using the smoker. Just walked out and measured.
Before I filled up the feeder.

BluegrassBelle, you and KyWildcatFanOne are wearing me out with these updates! I had to check the forecast for my old home in Ashland to see what everyone up there is getting. Looks like the Tri-State area of KY, OH, and WV is fixing to get 11" to 13" after all is said and done. I never thought I'd miss the snow, but now here I am in north Georgia wishing that we'd get a good 6" or 8" here as well.
Y'all be safe up there and enjoy the blissful quiet of a fresh blanket of snow as it's coming down. I would imagine schools will be closed tomorrow with this much coming in at once. The kids should enjoy that for sure. (I know I did when we got a good snow up there!)
