-30 degrees

Unless you've actually felt something like this, your mind cannot comprehend what it feels like. It's indescribably miserable. It's been 25 years since I lived in Alaska and felt temps close to this (we got down to temps like this during a blizzard) but I still vividly remember the shock of what I felt when I stepped outside and took in that first breath.

Memphis in '85 was bad as shite. I had to put on two more popped collar Coca Cola shirts under my Hard Rock sweatshirt to stay warm during that blast.

and put some rubberbands in them tightrolls so the cold couldn't run up the legs of your Girbauds.

Mrs Cove's brother and family live in International Falls, MN, right on the lake. One side of the lake is USA, the other is Canada. Current temp, -13. Saturday night's low, -29. Phuck every bit of that.

Not 89 cold for baton rouge or se LA. Back in Dec '89 we never even got above freezing one day and the low was 9 or 10 I believe.

My ole lady bloused them over her Capezios and I tied my Jordans tight below the roll on my Z-Cavs.

Those high temps are close to Jan 1985 or at least Dec 1989

I remember December 1989 all too well. Mom died on the 22nd and we buried her on the 23rd, where the low was -1 in Dallas (it was too cold to have a graveside service).

Didn't it get to like 5 below in 95 or 96? Seems like it did right before Christmas. Or maybe it remember it being colder than it really was.

You're thinking of February 1996. That was also a big time arctic outbreak. I couldn't find any temps for Memphis but Meridian, Miss (well south of Memphis obviously) had a record low for the date (Feb 4th) of 8 degrees. The Tri-Cities at the other end of the state set a record for the date of -14.

I lived west of Montgomery, AL at the time (in middle school) and remember being fired up because we were forecasted to have a white Christmas. High temp never got above 25 degrees with a low around 3 degrees. Storm went south and my aunt and uncle who were at her parents for Christmas in Panama City, FL got about 3 inches of snow instead. It was cloudy and cold where I was without a flake of snow to be found.

I wonder if the blizzard we had in Alaska back in 89 was the same system that brought so much cold weather down here? That blizzard would have been in early 89, like January or February. Is that when it hit down here?

I remember it even got bad enough they closed the school down there in Ketchikan which was virtually unheard of.

The coldest we got in Ketchikan during that blizzard in 89 was like -27 or something, it was right at -30 degrees. Further up north in places like Fairbanks they saw temps down in the -70 degree range.
