Meh, Accuweather says low of 18 Tuesday morning here, and warming up later in the week. That's cold, but not out of the ordinary for this time of year. Long range forecast has the rest of January slightly above normal.
Yep, those blasts in the 80's had highs in the teens.
I think shreveport had 130 hours straight of below freezing temps in '83

Unless you've actually felt something like this, your mind cannot comprehend what it feels like. It's indescribably miserable.
It's a dry cold.

I'm from a small town in upstate New York famous for snowfall because of The Lake Effect. I can tell you that at 37 below zero, your nose hair can freeze and it feels like little knives on the inside of your nose. I can remember the locks freezing on the car door and my grandfather driving for two hours holding the door "shut" with his hand at 35 below and 12 foot snow drifts.
Nose hair starts freezing noticeably around 10 degrees. That's when your locks also freeze and I';ve bungeed my door shut a few times.
40 below is when you boil water, throw it in the air and watch it vaporize.

You wouldn't be from around Lowville/Turin, would you? I went skiing in -10 in that area a couple years ago, it was -30 at night. I was wearing like 12 layers and we still had to go in for fear of frostbite once I couldn't feel my hands.
