Because impulsive morons will continue to buy their chit.

Screw letting them get away with it. Video is passive and should be used.

If not, then the honest consumer has to pay for the sins of the thieves and screw that crap.

These thieves probably fricked up high school for everybody, are too uneducated to be employable and will now frick up the retail experience

Ive never seen a policy that you cant film or call cops.

They don't let you follow them outside the store, or physically confront.

Well I mean, she physically confronted and followed them outside, so... what's your point? Every major corporation has those rules as well as a rule against calling the police without proper approval in a theft situation. There are good reasons for this.

That's not why they were fired.

Actually, you can sue for wrongful termination.

You can sue for wrongful termination if you were fired wrongfully. If you are fired for violating company policy - even if that policy is woefully stupid - then there's no wrongful termination.

The fired employees posted video evidence of their violation. Nothing wrongful about it in the eyes of the law.

I don't know where this was but Louisiana is an at-will state. So my understanding is that unless you can show you were fired for a specific reason that is protected under the law, like your race, it will be very difficult to get a wrongful termination judgment here.

The corporate policy is stupid though. They should call the cops and turn over the recordings. If it becomes a major issue hire security that will engage them.

There are actually very good reasons why you aren't allowed to call the police, unless you have proper approval. Every company has asset protection to process video footage, package it with statements, and then get the police involved. This is a rule at every major retailer.

Well that's dumb. Let's let them finish robbing the bank because we need to complete our paperwork first

Depends on what the employee handbook says and the store policy was.

It seems like we're heading in a direction where more and more retail moves online. We'll become a nation of warehouses.

I agree, but who would have thought that blatant theft was the reason for this transition? It’s a huge sign of the degradation of our society.

Maybe this will be what pushes it over the edge. Some people still like shopping in person but these brick and mortar stores will close if their profits take a big hit.

I think it was the Lowes CEO that talked on their earnings call about how big of a problem retail theft has become for them.

Do you think that the corporate policy could have more to do with liability if an employee is killed during a robbery attempt of that nature? Losing several hundred hours of apparel is one thing, but a seven figure payout if it employee dies is a lot more significant.

What a lovely world progressives and leftists have created…we will enable and put up with endless felony crimes to prevent worse felony crimes from happening.
