it is at LSU. Hell my roommate's truck was opened by LSU PD and his Ruger .22 seized while parked at the vet school. And this was 25+ years ago. He was in one of the labs. The cop saw the gun on the floorboard, opened his truck with a jimmy, and took his gun cause guns aren't allowed on campus.
You can absolutely have a gun in your car while on any school grounds. The law is clear on this. The “gun free zone” simply does not apply to vehicles. The only thing that makes this one a little hairy is that the gun was in plain sight in the vehicle rather than in the glove box.

Yeah concealment doesn’t count in a car, you can hide it without a license so to me that’s just a dumb move to leave it in plain sight.

A plain clothes respectable guy with a gun in a holster and it's high alert call the authorities and seal off the area
You went during a different time. I'll be honest, if I see someone with a concealed gun on them, I wouldn't think twice about it. When I worked for local government in college, in a courthouse in which the sheriff's office was in as well, I saw people in "plain clothed" people with a gun every day.
Where I use to go into the building, it was the same area where people from the sheriffs department would bring in evidence. There were times when someone would come in with a rifle in each hand, a few times there would be 2 or 3 people carrying a gun in each hand. It was usually a situation in which someone owning multiple guns illegally. It was something I never thought twice about..
But considering only a few weeks ago there were two mass shootings in two days, people are on high alert. People who have never really been in an environment where they saw people carry a gun, if they see someone in plain clothing, especially if they are not that close to them, it will raise concern.
Not sure why this is a big deal. Don't blame the person for calling it in. Blame the media who took this situation and put it out to the general public before confirming anything.

Sitting next to a cop right now....said it was taken to prevent another more serious crime from possibly happening:
someone breaking the glass and stealing the gun.

Simple burglary and theft. Nice.

Won't happen anytime soon with the "holistic" admissions process.

Member when that drugged out dude drove his car into the quad during finals week and the campus didn't care a bit?
Posted on 8/22/19 at 9:02 am to Ingeniero
If I see someone open carrying I don’t really care.
1. It’s their right (in most locations)
2. A maniac shooter won’t be advertising it.
Snowflakes.

When you have generations of kid brought up to blame and fear guns (and not being taught anything about guns) while at the same time hating police you get fools who don't know what to do except panic.

That's what I read as well.
But you can't let facts get in the way on this board.

He's saying that you can have a gun in your car on campus because it is explicitly listed in LSU's policy
quote:
The statute does not apply to:
1. Federal, state or local law enforcement officer in performance of official duties.
2. School official or employee acting during the normal course of his employment or a student acting under the direction of such school official or employee.
3. If on private property or within a private residence within one thousand feet of university property; however, LSU prohibits the possession of firearms or other dangerous weapons within the campus residences of its employees living on the campus.
4. If in accordance with a concealed handgun permit issued pursuant to R. S. 40:1379.1.
5. Constitutionally protected activities which cannot be regulated by the state such as a firearm contained entirely within a motor vehicle.
