This is sad. WHY does LSU athletics need $600 million?!
LSU's Endowment in 2017 was $845 million
Tulane's is $1.384 Billion

Please tell me how Henderson can spend hundreds of millions of dollars annually and have the bullshite pompous arrogance to say he can barely keep the fricking doors open!

So much of the building issues on campus have to do with the loss of state funding. At a point, it becomes financially more viable to build a new building instead of renovating an existing building. CEBA is a perfect example of this.
Okay...so when this 1.5 billion is spent on new construction who will maintain this expansion of buildings if the state is not a viable option to keep up with the upkeep of the new buildings.
This is like building a 100,000 square foot house and not realizing that you are going to have a high electrical bill or buying a jet and not realizing you need to buy jet fuel.
What is going to happen to this albatross when the number of students going to college dries up due to a shrinking population of future students and the bursting of the student loan bubble?
I guess LSU can skip this plan and start on a 2050 10 billion dollar building plan.

Same could be said for Alleva. I'm sure most on LSU's boards can see Alleva is a dumb shite. However, LSU athletics is doing well and making lots of money. If that money wasn't coming in, he'd be gone in an instant. They've proven they don't care about winning as much as they care about money. All you need to do is look at the tailgating/pregame activities for football and how corporate everything is and how you have to pay for everything.
It's simple business, why don't you understand that?

The constituents lack support for King, not the university. A change in leadership would likely be very well supported unless they proved to be more of the same.
LSU has always lagged behind their peers in terms of alumni donations and involvement on campus.
Until that changes, we will also see talented leaders use LSU as a stepping stone for greater success rather than a destination to serve long term.
you want change, voice the concerns to the governor and BoS. Each has their contact information listed here

I have always assumed it was because of TOPS. Louisiana students don't have any skin in the game. Most don't pay anything to go to LSU so why start when they leave.

LSU is used to not receiving a ton of donor funding. Therefore the leverage you imply doesn't really exist.
Get LSU to become dependent on donor funds first THEN see how fast those frickers scramble once the well starts to run dry due to mismanagement.

I also love people excoriating LSU for the $600M in athletics saying their priorities are astray but then basing their decision not to support the fundraising efforts because of Athletics personel decisions...
There is plenty to not like about King’s leadership that have nothing to do with athletic issues.
The fact is that from 2001 to sometime after 2010 LSU was shooting up as a university and built upon its successes. It’s not hyperbole to say those might be the best years in the history of the university in all metrics.
It stagnated with the state budget cuts, but then comes F King who publically said that the way they generated that rise was all wrong and we are going to do it his way.
It’s been a steady decline ever since, with zero indications of turnaround.
But yeah, more money in support of this.
Suuuuure

I see where you're coming from now.
I guess my point was, it has to start somewhere. IMO, the quickest way to change things at LSU is to effect the bottom line. Maybe more so on the athletics side than academics since it's a public university.

Standard TOPS barely covers half of a full time students expenses to the school....

I thought LSU just raised a sheet ton of money for the new engineering building

FKA never said that.
Hurricane Jindal destroyed the LSU status quo and FKA made some controversial remarks in order to stop the state funding bleeding. It came off as tone deaf and ridiculous but low and behold, the cuts all but stopped.
Mark Emmert did a great job pulling LSU up but he was operating in a time of relative financial stability and heightened national attention
The current LSU leadership has had to reshape nearly everything due to draconian budget cuts, non-competitive salaries, and an infrastructure stuck in the mid 90's
I can't blame FKA for holistic admissions, LSU needs more students if they want to be able to afford to operate

I remember it covering most of mine granted I went there years ago. All of my tuition was covered and I had standard.

In an effort to save TOPS, the legislature has cut funding so that it no longer covers the full cost of tuition.
The legislature was faced with a decision. Limit the number of students who qualify for TOPS and therefore get 100% funding or keep the current qualifications with some minor tweaks but only pay a portion of an individual student's bill.
They thought raising the requirments would create "equity issues" so plan B was the choice.

My comment remains then, many who went there didn't pay anything or much so they don't have skin in the game to begin with. They didn't pay to go there so they damn sure are not paying now.

Good point
I simply hate people who complain about a problem but then are not willing to be part of the solution!

200 million of this will go to outfit all LSU buildings with transgender bathrooms

TOPS covers tutition but not fees ... fees which continue to grown and increase the cost of attendance
