No one ever tried to limit my friendships during pledgeship. You said it already; it takes up a lot of your time. And someone else said that we all aren't plotting against GDI's... In fact, they weren't even a blip on most of our radar screens.

Yep.

the question remains unanswered. why do some non-greeks care so much about what greeks are doing, wearing, going, and saying?

This board is to discuss anything anybody feels like discussing. It can range from reporting the latest news on any subject, to the smallest inconsequential minutiae about anybody's personal life. This qualifies on all fronts.

It is also currently in the media.

Blue Buffalo is pretty good.

If that was the brand offered, this should be considered a treat.

It's kind of a jealousy thing IMHO. Not in that they are jealous that others got in when they didn't. But jealous of the success, girls, parties, etc. that fraternity people have in college when they sit on the outside thinking that they whole lifestyle is "stupid" or "gay". I'm not even trying to say that in a everyone's just jealous of greeks way. I think they can't understand how guys that dress that way and act that way get ahead in life the way that they do. GDI's for the most part think that stuff is for losers, so they can't wrap their mind around how it works for greeks. They then try to tear it down with the buying friends arguments and all that crap.

Like I said though, I'm not trying to broad brush all frats, this is just my personal experience. This was deliberate by his frat brothers to try and persuade him that we were inferior. I'm not saying that all frats, or that even different classes within the same one act like this. People are telling stories, so I told mine. I'm not a frat hater.

I remember even as a pledge being allowed to invite non-greek friends to parties... As long as they were under my name and any bad behavior would come back on me. The fraternity never asked me to give up other friends at all. However, it was easy to hang with the fraternity brothers cause we had a place to meet up and we had other events together.

As a GDI, fraternities like Pike and Phi Delt definitely give y'all a bad name.

A lot of guys in those shitty frats are fricking tools and arrogant as frick, but they have no merit. They're the type that don't realize tfm.com is supposed to be satirical.

All of the guys i know in "top tier" fraternities are good guys.

I think sororities are a lot worse about this.

This shite right here ^

It's an inferiority complex.

Same thing when I was with the football team. Typically the best athletes were the coolest dudes towards everyone else. It was usually the shitty ones that acted like pricks to everyone else.

This is also true. If you cared too much about being Greek and turned your nose up at people, I could see that pissing people off.

Greek life to me was a house to stay in, food to eat, people to hang out with, and a budget to have parties you never could have otherwise. Most other people I ended up hanging out with in college were greek also, but it's not like I ever even thought about whether someone was greek or not.

It's just annoying as f**k when you would meet someone who had no clue who would drop the, "oh you were greek, I was way to cool in college to buy friends". If you cared enough about what I was doing in college, I feel you might have the problem.

Just because someone didnt rush and join a frat doesnt mean they cant have similar experiences and "success". Some dudes in frats are good people, and some arent. Same can be said for non-greeks.

again, as I posted above, the mental part is whether the pledges are willing to eat what they think is puke and dog food
As a brother, wouldnt you want the pledge that had the balls to say no and stand up for the pledges? Seems like that would be the test

Lol at the dude saying non Greeks are jealous of their success (lol) and girls.

Currently dating a sorority girl and I never had any desire to do anything that resembled a frat.

And for the guys who said it's a private club, you're correct, but it also is attached to LSU's campus, and is a part of the LSU Greek system, so it's not some standalone private club that has no rules and can do whatever they want.

Pretty much. Didn't do it and I still had a good time. Still go to frat parties (or got to go to - work too much now) and had a lot of buddies in frats. Had a few run-ins with the stereotypical tools, but it's all fun.

We do beat the shite out of the frat teams every year in intramurals though. They can't play basketball for shite, save for 1 or 2 teams a year

ACACIA had a 40 person pledge class?

When I was at LSU a few years ago they'd get around 20 or less.

My pledge class (Not ACACIA) would probably be able to kill 47 packs of cigs in a night or two
