LSU football going to electronic tickets - this will be a cluster for the ages

The OT will have more fun with this than the Rant. Can you imagine the absolute clusterfrick that lines will be when 100,000 drunk and rowdy fans try to use their smartphones at the gates to get into Tiger Stadium? Dead batteries, broken phones, no signal, etc, etc, etc. Who seriously thought this was a good idea?
Why discontinue print at home? And I love that you now are required to use StubHub to resell tickets. What's LSU cut on that deal? How do I give my buddy an extra ticket at the tailgate minutes before the game?

LSU Athletics announced today all 2020 LSU football tickets will be distributed through mobile delivery and accessed by ticketholders through digital wallets on smartphones.
The move to mobile ticketing allows for faster delivery of tickets to fans, contactless transactions at gates and more flexibility for ticketholders.
“The ability to receive, share and use tickets in a contactless manner is a top priority for us,” LSU Associate Athletic Director Brian Broussard said. “We have been planning for this transition and the current environment accelerated this move. We are excited to offer this new convenience and ease of use for our fans.”
Mobile tickets will be delivered to fans via email beginning in late August. With mobile tickets, fans will have new convenient options for accessing, transferring and reselling tickets from their smartphones through My Account 2.0, an enhanced online ticket account manager on LSUTix.net. My Account 2.0 will enhance the user experience for LSU football fans and provide a more intuitive self-service feature. Season ticket holders will be able to use their smartphone to view upcoming events, download tickets to their digital wallet, transfer tickets to multiple recipients via text message, and post tickets for resale on StubHub.
Broussard stressed ticketholders will need to download tickets to their smartphones’ digital wallets before heading to Tiger Stadium as cellular connections can be limited with increased use on game days. Tickets will be made available to ticket holders in late August.
There will be no physical season ticket books or paper tickets. Print-at-home tickets will also be discontinued. Ticketholders who do not have a smartphone will be able to request alternative options through an online assistance form.

Is this a serious question?

Screenshot the barcode and text it to him.

You screen capture the ticket and send an sms.

It’s 2020. I think people will do fine. Scalpers can get fricked.

had electronic tix for baseball. worked fine. maybe even better than fumbling around with paper tix and less chance of losing/forgetting them.

Do tickets matter if the games aren't going to be played?

If it works like the others I have seen, screen shot will not work bc the barcode thing changes every X amount of minutes.

You usually make sense on here but are you seriously comparing baseball fans to the people who stumble into TS after tailgating for 10 hours? Come on man.

Well that won't be happening either, so ...

I guess we have now seen the extinction of the guys with ticket signs at the gates of campus.

How is this new or more convenient?
It's a QR/barcode. What the frick does it matter if it's scanned on a phone or a piece of paper?

Depending on the app they use, you can always transfer them to somebody else. Did this with Vivid seats app

Dammit.
I love my ticket books.
I love my ticket books.

If you've been to an astros game the last few years you've had to do this... Not that difficult really...

This was a necessary step because the next communication we get will include one or more of the following:
- reduced or modified home schedule
- reduced capacity which leads to a need to have opt-outs or reduced ticket packages
If they mailed paper tickets, there would be too many floating around that are invalid. The only way to control this is via digitally controlled tickets - if it’s not a valid ticket, it doesn’t exist.
As far as being forced to use Stubhub...you can still transfer a ticket to someone. Make a cash deal and transfer the ticket. It’s easy and not quite the difficulty people imagine it to be.

A lot of sports at collegiate and professional do this. Only issue I can see coming from this is making sure my grandpa knows how to show the ticket on his iPhone.

This feels like a legit “OK boomer” thread.
You realize tons of people have been using electronic tickets at LSU football games for years now, right? I haven’t used a paper ticket to get into a game in 3 years.

You’ve been required to use StubHub for 4 years.
Yes, it’s partly a money grab by LSU. But it’s also a way to virtually eliminate ticket scams. You give your buddy a ticket by transferring it electronically. In fact, you don’t even have to be at the same tailgate now.

i've been part of both.
and i'd say the electronic method is better. people may leave their tickets, money etc.. at home or lose them along the way. But, people will lose a hand before they lose their phone.
