I know several people that met or exceeded those numbers and went to LSU because LSU offered them the most.
I was offered scholarships to other schools, but chose LSU; there was no other option in my mind. My dad would've been rolling over in his grave if I'd gone to a bama or Ole Miss.

Nothing wrong with that. I get the whole family tradition legacy thing. But if you are from here and never had a special connection to LSU I can definitely see why they’d leave. This all stems from people saying it’s bad to have a lot of out of state students. I think it’s good and embrace it. More money, more diversity = GOOD

LSU does a terrible job recruiting the top students in state. It is a hit or miss proposition. I know National Merit Finalists who never even heard from LSU except for a generic pamphlet about the school after the students had already accepted full scholarships out of state from schools that showed interest months to more than a year ahead of that time.

LSU needs to work on getting kids like that because we’re struggling to keep the instate kids. They’d rather go to ULL, NSU or Tech because those towns are nicer than ghetto arse BR.
Did you miss this part:

The admission changes at LSU also come after LSU's admissions office reported an application pool of more than 24,300 applications for the incoming freshman class. In comparison, a total of 17,817 applications were submitted to LSU last year
Sounds like out of all of LSU's problems, brining in-state students isn't on of them.

Pretty sure The University of Oklahoma & The University of Alabama lead the nation in national merit scholars going there. At least a few years ago

Freshmen requirements for admission into LSU include a 3.0 grade-point average (!!!) and a composite score of 22 on the ACT.
Meh, pretty low standard for a flagship university.

It's been years since I've had to worry about such things. I believe the admission standards were lower when I was at LSU in the mid 90s. What is the norm for a flagship university?

Auburn used to be ahead of Alabama, but ratcheted down the benefits just a bit due to complaints from taxpayers about how many scholarships were given to out of state students. Once they reduced benefits slightly, Alabama increased theirs for some reason.

I bet I know one factor that will qualify them if their scores fall short.
I don't think they "give" athletes grades, as much as yall would think. It's not as easy to get away with that today.. In the 80 and 90s, that was the norm, but like I said.. Today, it's not as easy to get away with.

So how many people with 4.0+ GPAs and 30+ are attempting to go to LSU?
Umm... I did. They offered me the most. Out of state scholarships are fricking expensive until you get resident status.

You’re laughing but there’s a reason middle class and upper class white kids from all over the country choose to go to Bama and Ole Miss. it’s a true southern college experience. LSU needs to work on getting kids like that because we’re struggling to keep the instate kids. They’d rather go to ULL, NSU or Tech because those towns are nicer than ghetto arse BR.

My wife went to a Catholic all girls school here in Nola. Every few moths she receives an alumni catalog in the mail, this past years class there was only 2 seniors who chose LSU. Most of the girls Goto UGA, Bama, OM,UVA or some small school in the north east. FWIW, my wife went to College of Charleston then transferred to Bama. LSU was never an option.
From last year’s graduating class (2017) at Jesuit HS, over 100 students chose to go to LSU.
One of the top 4 grads from Lusher Charter (they don’t name Valedictorians) from 2018 who has a 34 ACT and straight A school record, (a white female going into a STEM field), is going to LSU’s Honor College instead of one of the other top schools she was accepted to because she didn’t get a full ride scholly at any of those other schools.

I didn't even apply to any other school but LSU (grant it I didn't have a 4.0+ (my school was on a 4.0 scale or a 30+ ACT )
You don't say?

Alabama plays the USNWR game well. It's still probably harder to get into Auburn, but Alabama throws money at areas that matter for rankings purposes. And to Alabama's credit (and Auburn's), both are legitimately improving.
I suspect that'll be the case with all big state schools. There will be more and more kids going to college, and more and more competition for 2nd and 3rd tier SEC schools, even ones that typically haven't been all that highly regarded. Rising tide and all that.

You didn’t read my post. I literally said exactly what you said when you replied to me. I have been and it’s FULL of out of state kids from Illinois, NY, NJ etc. exactly what LSU needs.. more variety and more money they have to pay and they will pay. Wave some things and make them pay for tuition out of state still. It would work.

Tuscaloosa just as ghetto as br?? Absolutely not. It’s way nicer. I’ve been there and apparently you haven’t if you think it’s just as ghetto.
