You’re laughing but there’s a reason middle class and upper class white kids from all over the country choose to go to Bama and Ole Miss. it’s a true southern college experience. LSU needs to work on getting kids like that because we’re struggling to keep the instate kids. They’d rather go to ULL, NSU or Tech because those towns are nicer than ghetto arse BR.

I get the sentiment, but people who grew up in the state are bolting after graduation too.

While its true that people from in state are leaving, I would imagine the retention rate is MUCH higher for in state students than out of state. If you increase the percentage of out of state students, I would imagine that would increase the so called "brain drain" as well.

shite if I was from the north shore and had the option of going to school in either
1. BR - 1.5 hours away
2. Tuscaloosa - 4 hours away
3. Oxford - 5 hours away.
Unless you’re a legacy, meaning your parents and other family members went to LSU,
Bama would be hard to pass on.
Keep in mind as crazy as this sounds, kids like to go to a college that has a winning FB team and seems like the real place to be. They wave the out of state fees so the price is really about the same.

We are already struggling to keep college grads without bringing in high amounts of out of state kids. Why not roll the dice and try getting a huge pipeline from up north. The odds of a grad from Illinois sticking around after graduation are higher or just as high as a LA kid sticking around or bolting for Houston.

LSU will require applicants to submit at least one letter of recommendation from a counselor, teacher, advisor, or administrator starting in the summer of 2019.

I'm sure LSU will be swamped with generic stock insert name here recommendation letters.

I wonder how homeschoolers fit into this.

A letter from mommy will suffice, since we all know he/she will live in mommy's basement until he/she is at least 50 years old.

Let’s get a pipeline from NY/NJ/VA to LSU.

No one wants those assholes down here.
We definitely need to be attracting more hot Arizona co-eds though

Maybe it is a way to cut down on the total number of applications. Maybe they hope some will either forget or not want to go through the extra loop to get through and not apply.

It was just an example. I don’t care where they come from as long as we get them. My point is, we need a program that makes LSU a legit destination for kids from far away. I’m sure tons would love to get that SEC experience but the fees and lack of scholarships keep them from doing so..

That has absolutely no reason for why those kids arent "even considering LSU."

It is 100% a weird status thing to some Nola people that view themselves as elite

You’re mistaken. These people see an opportunity to get out of the state sooner than later so they go. It has nothing to do with them thinking they’re elite. It’s a smart move if anything. You people always critique anyone who decides to leave the state and refuse to open the gates to allow outsiders in. Louisiana is a sinking ship. There’s no fixing

You can’t sit there with a serious face a say Baton Rouge is a nicer place to live for four years than Tuscaloosa.. I love LSU 100% but let’s be realists here. It’s not even close. Never been to oxford but I have been to Tuscaloosa and I went to LSU so I know what I’m talking about.

You act like these kids are going to ole miss with the intentions of staying in the state of MS for the rest of their lives.. you go there, party your arse off, spend little to no time anywhere else in the state and move on with your life. That’s how it works
