If you cannot get into UT or TAM, you go to LSU. And unless you are willing to spend your senior year at a ghetto high school in Texas to get into the top 7% for auto admission , your chance of actually getting into UT and TAM are slim.

Out of state tuition is much higher than in state tuition. Is that a hard concept to understand?

This is factually false. It's certainly in the cellar of sec schools.

All SEC schools are pretty close in US News rankings. The top tiers have some separation but there really isn't much of a difference between being #135 and #111

MSU #176
Ole Miss #135
Arkansas #135
LSU #135
UK #133
Mizzou #111
USC #107
UT #103
UA #103
AU #99

aTm #74
UGA #56
UF #50
Vandy #50

Here's the Princeton Review rankings which support your thesis

Here’s a look at how the Academic Ratings from all the SEC schools stacked up, from highest to lowest:

VANDERBILT: 96
FLORIDA: 77
TENNESSEE: 75
AUBURN: 74
SOUTH CAROLINA: 74
ARKANSAS: 73
GEORGIA: 73
OLE MISS: 71
TEXAS A&M: 71
MISSOURI: 69
KENTUCKY: 67
ALABAMA: 65
LSU: 63
MISSISSIPPI STATE: NR (No ranking listed for the Bulldogs)

Is there anything Mississippi hasn't saved us from being last place in?

I’m about to finish up my degree in accounting. I have a job lined up with one of the Big 4 accounting firms. What is the difference between an undergrad accounting degree from Florida and LSU? I have the job that most people desire in my field, without having to pay student loan debt. Feels good

Is your argument that LA higher ed should drain completely into out of state schools?

Until the state gets its shite together, yes.

Uh. I don't know if you've been to LSU recently but the only rough neighborhood is immediately north of campus. South of LSU is nice AF. And LSU has been purchasing land and developing the bad stuff in the last few years. clearly you haven't been to campus in a while. They've made great strides in rejuvenating the campus and will continue to do so with their Master Plan they released last year.

And why are private schools excluded from consideration? There are lots of scholarships that make them very affordable- especially at Rice.

I went to Texas A&M for a semester and was in the Corps there and that waived my out of state rate. However, once I left ROTC out of state at the time was about $16k a semester.

I'll monitor the school situation as I have kids and time wears on, but will encourage my kids to get scholarships and keep options open so they don't have to worry about losing funding every semester.

Lol. I didn't go to UF for undergrad, but it is a far superior academic school. Cool pics tho.

yeap, LSU slipped mightily with the Jindal budget cuts to higher education. Neccessary as they were it hurt the state's higher ed rankings.

Out of state tuition is pretty ridiculous. Shouldn’t be such a huge gap
between in state and out of state. Private schools wind up being about the same cost as out of state tuition.
